ONLY ONE WILL WIN: Unrelenting Left Must Face Unrelenting Conservatives

One of the best movie ever made was 2005’s Serenity starring greats Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin (*cough* certified conservative), Jewel Staite, Summer Glau, and many others. Based off the TV series Firefly it tells the tale of a small group of rebels going up against a large bureaucratic juggernaut called The Alliance. Spoiler alert, the good guys win the day. In a final scene, in referring to the nature of his former employer, a bad apple Alliance member tells our hero, “They are not gone and they are not…forgiving.”

This describes the Left. They never give up. They never stop. Their totalitarian leanings, described even by Aristotle in his Republic, are never satiated. So fine. We fight, as we must.

The particular battle I speak of today centers around parents versus school districts and the automaton, zero-tolerance policies millions have witnessed and thousands have endured. A Washington Times article describes a sadly common story, mostly involving boys:

A 6-year-old Colorado boy was suspended from school Monday after he pointed his finger in the shape of a gun at another classmate and said, “You’re dead.”

Austin Thurston, whose son, Elijah, attends Stratton Meadows Elementary School in Colorado Springs, says he believes a one-day suspension for a make-believe gun is too extreme.

“I know they have zero tolerance, but more of a maybe no recess,” he told a local ABC affiliate. “Going as far as a one-day suspension is a little extreme for a 6-year-old in a first-grade class.”…

Mr. Thurston said he and his wife have spoken with the boy about guns, the station reported.

“We just told him there’s a time and a place for everything, and we told him school is never a place for that. We let him know that the guns in the wrong hands will be very dangerous,” he said. “He knows the difference between really doing that, and just putting your finger up and saying, ‘Boom, you’re dead.’ We made sure he understands the severity of what he said.”

Although the school didn’t require it, Elijah is writing a letter of apology to the school, the station reported.

No, no, NO! I feel for Mr. Thurston; he probably just wanted the ordeal to be over. But he makes his son write an apology to the school? In the word of America’s should-be-impeached president, the school acted stupidly. The more important part of this story, however, is how Elijah’s dad reacted, once again proving my rule that it’s not what happens to us in life that matters, so much as our reaction. Austin Thurston should have called a meeting with everyone involved in Elijah’s suspension. At that meeting, he should have said something to this effect:

Thank you all for coming. As you know, last week my six-year-old son Elijah pointed his finger at a classmate and said, “You’re dead.” For this, he was suspended one day. What perplexes me and millions of Americans is that we have two groups of people in our school systems. One, those seeking opportunities to exert power because it makes them feel powerful. Two, those too frightened to do anything about the first group. Both groups have either forgotten or can’t stomach what makes America great. And it’s not just playing cops and robbers, cowboys and Indians, Barbies, or babies on the playground. It’s the freedom to do these things, which American has treasured since we were told of so many behaviors that were not approved of by a king.

My son may have been acting up, but you overreacted. If you were determined he not point fingers and say, “You’re dead,” please explain to me the harm in saying, “Hey, don’t do that.” and move on with the day. Making an example of him says more about your petty lives than it ever will about Elijah.

Before I remove my son from this district, know this. There will probably come a day when my wife or I will punish him for a certain behavior. What you accused him of will not ever be one of them.

You all were petty, cowardly, or both, and someday you’re learn how stupid your actions were. I pray you don’t affect anyone else’s lives in a similar or worse manner.

Those of you on Facebook or Twitter, have you noticed how quickly the Left goes off topic or ad hominem when you challenge their falsehoods? Cries of bigotry, racism, and “YEAH BUT BUSH!” fill these social sites like a cancer. We simply have to stand up and say, “Not this time.”

So the Left is not gone, so it is not forgiving. Neither are we. With God, facts, and common sense on our side, let’s throw down and see who wins.
