Why Government Rule By Whim Is a Threat to Every American

“The more power a government has the more it can act arbitrarily according to the whims and desires of the elite, and the more it will make war on others and murder its foreign and domestic subjects. The more constrained the power of governments, the more power is diffused, checked, and balanced, the less it will aggress on others and commit democide.”
–R.J. Rummel (1932-2014) professor emeritus of political science at the University of Hawaii

A whim is a personal preference, and an impulsive one at that. If, on a whim, I decide I like the color blue so much that I paint the inside of my entire house that color, my wife and children might not be thrilled with it, but overall no one gets hurt.

In the hands of government, however, whims are weapons.

The sit-in that occurred late last month should scare us all. If today’s news has you forgetting what happened, Representative John Lewis (GA-5) and his merry band of bedwetters sat down on the floor of the House of Representatives to force a vote on gun violence. “No fly, no buy” was their mantra, meaning if you’re on the No Fly list, you shouldn’t be able to buy a gun. The Mt.-Rushmore-sized problem with this notion is people get put on the No Fly list frequently, and without due process. John Lewis was even on this list.

So what these Democrats are saying is it’s okay to deny an American citizen his rights, in this case the Second Amendment, without due process. In other words, we are all at the mercy of a bureaucrat’s whim. You can see where this is going. By merely declaring you a threat, you’re a threat, and you can lose your gun rights. And once you lose that, why would you think all other rights aren’t at risk?

The Fourth Amendment is clear:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Lest you get complacent, and think Lewis’ failed self-imposed “time out” was a failure so you don’t need to worry, the Supreme Court ruled 6-2 – six people ruled against us – that it no longer takes a felony to lose your 2nd Amendment rights, but merely if your behavior is reckless. Worse, that Hillary Clinton is not already in prison for life but is actually still a candidate for president, is Exhibit A on the fickle nature of whimsical government. A few examples:
• If Obamacare’s select group of members on the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) decides not to pay for you to live, you die. No due process.
• If anyone in the IRS decides to target you because he or she doesn’t agree with your point of view, you’re going to get audited. No due process.
• If a bureaucrat deems you mentally unfit because you’re a gun enthusiast and therefore mentally unfit, you will lose your Second Amendment rights. No due process.
• If you do not believe in man-made global warming, you will be charged with a crime, a blatant violation of the your First Amendment rights, among others. No due process.
• Since the federal government now controls the Internet, how long before they flip a switch on your access merely on a whim?

The Constitution is only as strong as the ethical monotheism that created it. And yes, our Constitution could only have come from belief in a God who imbued us with inalienable rights. So when you care about neither the Constitution nor God, what do you think is going to happen?
