Get Involved, America! Demand Politicians Who’ll Serve with Integrity

Nixon spoke of “The Silent Majority”, of Americans who believed in our founding principles. Today, the Democrat Party tries to take America to socialism at a dead run while at least half the Republicans head the same way at a jog! Many of our leaders are willfully ignorant of our Founders, their principles, and our Founding Documents. Instead they fixate on gaining power, increasing it, and holding onto it. The worst is that they think we approve of what they do.

Unfortunately, character and integrity in those we elect counts little even with many Christians anymore; leaving us to choose between the lesser of two evils, rather than the better of two goods. We need to return to the standards that God gave us for those who represent us. “Furthermore, you shall select out of all the people able men, men who fear God, men of truth, who hate dishonest gain and you shall place them over them….” Ex. 18:21. ABLE men, not party hacks. Perhaps choose someone who has run a business, paid taxes, and made a payroll, or career military; someone who has real life and leadership experience.

We must NEVER pick a candidate because, ”It’s his turn.”, as we did with RINO duds Dole and McCain. The Presidency is not a participation trophy! Second, we need men who fear God more than man, who will stand for the eternal principles that the US is founded on rather than looking to get reelected! Women who will write legislation while giving America enough time to examine and debate its wisdom. “We have to pass it to find out what’s in it.”, is how you analyze a stool sample, not pass a law!

God wants leaders “who HATE dishonest gain”! Hillary disqualified. How do so many Congresscritters become millionaires AFTER being elected to a job paying $165,000 a year? As a city councilman, I opposed a pay raise from $600 to $900 a year, saying that because we are grateful to be Americans, we should express it in public service. The job required two three-hour meetings a month, plus occasional side stuff, for town of 5,000. The local paper condemned me and I was voted down. It’s about choosing representatives of principle, character, and patriotism.

Moses ordered judges to be impartial between the rich and poor, favoring neither, but doing what was right. “Do not fear man, for the judgement is God’s.” Deut. 1:16-17. “You shall not pervert justice or be partial, or take a bribe, for bribes blind the eyes of the righteous.” Deut. 16:19. Yet politicians accept favors from business, unions, and lobbying groups, mostly to rig the tax code and regulations in favor of the special interests and to the detriment of everyone else. Our job candidate pool is corrupted and the lack of term limits means that only 3-5% of Congressional seats turn over each election cycle.

WE are the solution, folks! Don’t support someone just because you think they are good, check them out. Jimmy Carter said he was a Christian. I know a lot of nice 5-year-olds, but neither they nor Jimmy was cut out to be POTUS. We must seek persons of integrity, be they Jewish, Christian, Hindu or Muslim, so long as they are honest and committed to the Founding Principles of America, they are good candidates. Real statesmen have formed Gut-Level convictions and principles and won’t abandon them.

In ’79, people asked why I was for Reagan rather than Bush. “On paper”, I explained, “Bush is the most qualified candidate of the 20th century. He’s been a combat pilot, successful businessman, Ambassador to China, CIA Director, and six-term Congressman. BUT, he started in the House with an 88% American Conservative Union rating, and twelve years later had a 64% rating. There’s just two things I don’t like about George Bush,” I’d say: “His face!” In ’88 I was proven right: “NO NEW TAXES!…Oh, wait! Just kidding! Enjoy your tax hike!” Convictions and principles count, folks, not “I wanna be the Boss!”

Second, you must get personally into the game. Attend meetings of local party groups, and Town Halls with representatives. Volunteer to help. Study our founding and our Founding Documents. See what the other side is saying and listen to them. Listen more than you talk so you can see how others see the world. Then, maybe, you can find common ground on a few things, make friends, and slowly change minds.

“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned, as it were, with salt, so that you may know how to respond to each person.” Col.4:6. “But set apart Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you; yet with gentleness and reverence. And keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 1 Pe.3:15-16. In other words, don’t be a jerk, but know what you’re talking about.

You’ll be amazed at what you can do if you just start. After discovering last week that my congressman had introduced a bill for national carry reciprocity, but ONLY for Congresscritters, I emailed him to say that if it was good enough for THEM, it was good enough for US! Relatively few people contact Congress on the issues. The more who do, the more they listen. If enough voters say yea or nay, they usually change.

In America, only about 49% of all people eligible to vote for president, vote. Only about 15% will care enough to wear a button or put up a yard sign or a bumper sticker on their car. Only 10% will give money to a candidate or party, while a mere 1% of voters will get actively involved in a campaign. This means that the tail wags the dog in the USA. Millions are giving up their decisions to you if you only speak and act. Stop being part of The Silent Majority, and start being an agent of positive change! Matt.5:13-16.

Share if you want decent folks to get involved and elect candidates who will reflect decency for America.
