Mr. President, Keep Your Promises — An Open Letter to The Don

First and foremost, I voted for you, and still support you…however, I do not follow blindly down any path. Not yours, and certainly not your predecessor’s. Like many, if not all, potential office-holders, you have found that things are different when you’re looking from the inside out, than they were when you were looking from the outside in. It is that difference that we, the people, both understand and don’t.

As a businessman, and the chief executive of your own company, you say what goes and what doesn’t…and that’s the way it should be. As the President you say something and 535 different people listen and then begin disassembling what you said. Not only the entire Congress will weigh in on what you say and do, the media will have their say and so with the people…like me.

According to the dictionary, a promise is “a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen”, and when that promise is not kept, it’s a BROKEN promise. People, and I’m one, don’t especially like when promises are broken…it causes us to lose faith in the person. To your credit, you ARE fulfilling many of the promises you made, and because of all the other people involved, some of them are not being kept. Specifically, you said you’d move the embassy to Jerusalem, and that has not been done. Why, is a matter of fact and opinion. The fact is obvious, but the opinion is clouded. Some of us suspect that your son-in-law, Jared Kushner, talked you out of it. If that is the case then there should be some reason why, and that should be explained to the people.

You promised there would be a wall along our Southern border. Not a fence, or an imaginary line…a wall. You said Mexico would pay for the wall, and we all believed you. The wall must be built, and it should definitely be a deterrent to illegal entry to this country. At this point the idea that Mexico will pay for it is slowly being eased out of the picture. If, however, you wanted to fulfill that promise, you could begin rounding up ALL of the illegal aliens in this country and deporting them. Sending them back to their home would free up millions of dollars in welfare payments and other benefits that they probably get but don’t deserve…and THAT would make your promise come true.

We have a problem with the Veteran’s Administration, and specifically, their health programs. At no time in my memory has there been an administration that didn’t talk it up about how they were going to fix that problem…and it’s still not fixed. Here’s where you get stymied again. You may have put the right person in the job, but that person still has to jump through the administrative hoops that the “old guard” puts up. It’s that old guard, in both political parties, that may be the problem in all that you’re trying to do. Perhaps it’s the rapid change that you bring, that frightens them, or it could be that because the people in the “flyover” part of America don’t see things the way that Los Angeles or New York citizens do. This country runs from ocean to ocean and that means there’s many, many, people in the middle that listened to you, and expect you to do what you said.

It continues to baffle me that there’s folks that just don’t understand the meaning of the word “illegal”. If you break the law by entering this country without proper documentation, you are an illegal alien. Breaking the law should be a non-political discussion because we hear it over and over again, “we are a nation of laws” and “no one is above the law” …but are they true? We need to enforce the laws that are already on the books and you’d see a big change in our country.

As an example, there are laws in place about sedition, which is talking about overthrowing the government…another law is about making threats against the President or members of the administration …back in 1952 Congress passed a law which made it illegal for Islamists to enter the country…and there are many laws about murder, whether it’s done out of hate for a person’s color or faith or anything else, it’s still murder. So, why are we not enforcing these laws? My answer is that, over a few decades, we’ve become quite “milk-toasty” and we just don’t want to!

Is there, really, any objective reason for members of the preceding administration not to be tried in a court of law?

Parting shot: Someone once told me that, in order to “get along” in today’s world (and this was years ago) one had to be pretty much like a chameleon, and change your thinking to coincide with the “mob”. News Flash…we don’t have mob rule in this country. That’s the big difference between a democracy, which we are not, and a republic, which we are. Now, THAT brings up an entirely different story, the dumbing-down of Americans over the past several decades…and we’ll talk about that some time. For now, just consider what’s been said here, and by other sensible, right-thinking, Americans. If America is to survive, and it’s under threat, we must be vigilant. Always, and ever.
