DEAR NFL OWNERS: Please Play This Comedian’s Pledge Of Allegiance Homage For Your DISRESPECTFUL Players

If you’re an American, and this doesn’t give you chills… check your pulse!

What do the complainers and ingrates have to say about this great nation of ours? The malcontents that sneer at our anthem, and burn our flag?

Could it be that they never really understood what it was they are coming together for?

Could they be blinded by the rhetoric of those who gain and keep power — whether as a politician or a special interest group — by creating rifts?

How different might the polarization of our great nation be today if every teacher across the fruited plain had the same high opinion of the Pledge — and by extention, America — that we hear in this video?

Many of our differences would melt right away. And wouldn’t public opinion of what the government is ‘supposed to do for us’ be different, too?

Someone tell Jimmy Kimmel about this clip, and how it’s possible to say a political message without taking swings at the audience. With Kimmel, we know what he hates. With Skelton, we know what he LOVES. And that’s a world of difference.

14 January 1969. Famous American comedian, Red Skelton, explains the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, word-by-word, from a memorized lecture given to him by his 7th grade school teacher, Mr. Lasswell.

“I pledge allegiance
to the flag,
of the United States of America,
and to the republic
for which it stands,
one nation,
under God,
indivisible,
with liberty and justice
for all.”

Red Skelton:

“I: Me, an individual, a committee of one.

PLEDGE: Dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self pity.

ALLEGIANCE: My love and my devotion.

TO THE FLAG: Our standard, Old Glory, a symbol of freedom. Wherever she waves, there’s respect because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts freedom is everybody’s job.

UNITED: That means that we have all come together.

STATES: Individual communities that have united into 48 great States. Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose; all divided with imaginary boundaries yet united to a common purpose, and that’s love for Country.

AND TO THE REPUBLIC: Republic; a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people, and it’s from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.

FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION: One nation, meaning “so blessed by God.”

INDIVISIBLE: Incapable of being divided.

WITH LIBERTY: Which is freedom, the right of power to live one’s own life without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation.

AND JUSTICE: The principle or quality of dealing fairly with others.

FOR ALL: For all, which means, boys and girls, it’s as much your country as it is mine.

And now, boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance:

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance:

“Under God!”

Wouldn’t it be a pity if someone said, ‘That is a prayer!’, and that would be eliminated from schools too? “

And did you notice he took off his hat when he began?

So did we. If this speech makes you want to stand up and shout “Hell Yeah!”… then we’ve got a book for you:

Does your grandpa go off on paltry politicians, whether they be Democrats or Republicans? Does he get misty eyed when he talks about God and Country and America’s future? And have you ever heard him scream, ‘Awww … Hell no!’ when Rosie O’Donnell starts yapping on television? If you answered yes to one, or all of the above, then your gramps will love Doug Giles’ latest book, My Grandpa’s A Patriotic Badass.

Don’t be fooled by the title — this ain’t just for Grandpa.
The Snowflake Generation — and the rest of America — needs a good ol’ dose of ‘Grandpa wisdom’.
Especially if that Grandpa is Doug Giles.
You’ll love My Grandpa’s A Patriotic Badass just as much as Grandpa will.

Share if you think this speech was absolutely brilliant!
