Ignore the Elites! Regular People Love Trump — and Here’s Why…

Patti Davis, daughter of President Ronald Reagan, wrote a letter to The Washington Post on Sunday sharing her opinion of what her father would think of President Trump. Not surprising anyone, she wrote a hate-filled screed attacking the president on a wide-range of topics.
I do not know what Ronald Reagan would think of Donald Trump’s presidency, nor do I think it matters. Patti Davis is just another in a long line of elites who resent the fact that “regular people” voted for such a person as Donald Trump.
Their arrogance is captured well in Ben Rhodes’ book when he quotes Barack Obama pondering, “Sometimes I wonder whether I was 10 or 20 years too early.” For Obama and the elites, we “regular folks” were just too stupid, backward, tribal and racist to understand the enlightenment he offered us. Liberals have misunderstood and continue to miss why regular folks support Trump and why they continue to do so. Here’s the short list.
1. Jobs, Jobs, Jobs. The economy added 223,000 jobs in May, above forecasters’ expectations. The unemployment rate dipped to 3.8 percent — the lowest level in 18 years. The bottom line is people can find work. Help wanted signs dot store windows. The opportunities to find a meaningful job are better now than they have been for a long time. Regular folks get it. People want to work and need to work to support themselves and their families. That’s not some great social experiment. It’s a real-life concern. Trump gets it.
2. Money in our pockets. The tax cuts were real and regular people know that. American families received $3.2 trillion in gross tax cuts. For quite a few regular families, that meant a couple thousand dollars more to work with and spend. To the elites, that may be crumbs, but to regular people, it’s real money. It’s getting ahead on payments. It’s being able to take a vacation. It matters.
3. Fair trade deals. Perhaps in no other area has Trump defied conventional wisdom more than he has in insisting that our manufacturing sector be respected, and jobs be restored. The manufacturing industry led job gains in March, adding to that sector’s streak of solid employment numbers over the past year under President Trump. USA Today reported on May 31st, “Striking a strong blow on behalf of working men and women, Donald Trump’s policies are bringing jobs to destitute towns like Ashland, Ky., while revitalizing American manufacturing.”
4. He’s got our back. Unlike some previous Republican presidents, Trump fights back hard against the liberal elites and the establishment. His steady communication through Twitter, going directly to the people, not unlike FDR of old, is powerful. He is crude at times and abrasive, but he doesn’t take garbage from the liberals. His exposing “Fake News”, challenging the validity of the seemingly endless Mueller probe, and systematic dismantling of the Obama legacy has left many regular people not only encouraged but cheering.
These are just four reasons among a host of many as to why millions of regular people across this country support, defend and believe in the work of the Trump Administration. The elites believe they are smarter than we are. They know much more than we do, so they will stop at nothing to bring down the president that we, regular people, elected. We must do all we can to ensure that they fail. For the first time in a long time, to quote the line from The Jeffersons television show, “We finally got our piece of the pie.” Let’s not give it up.
