‘Hive of Scum and Villainy’: Democrats Throw Tantrum At Kavanaugh Hearing

“Mos Eisley spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.” This is an iconic line from Star Wars: A New Hope. Old Ben Kenobi shares this wisdom as he and young Luke stand on a hill above this bustling port.

As we watch the Senate Judiciary Committee and witness the beginning of the Judge Kavanaugh hearing, I think this is an apt description of the conduct of the Democrats and their allies. The opening of the hearing was interrupted with numerous outbursts and shouts of rude protesters who, like spoiled children, just want their own way.

The conduct of Democrat committee members, while more civilized, is no more virtuous. Attacks on the integrity of the chairman Senator Chuck Grassley and misrepresentations of precedent and Senate committee procedures dominated the early part of the hearing. All this grandstanding and gamesmanship is not meant to further the cause of the American people. It is a ploy to gain favor with a radical, left-wing base who hates President Trump and those who voted for him. Who are these senators who promote the scum and villainy that plague our great country?

One of the leaders is Senator Richard Blumenthal (D) of Connecticut. He is puffed up and grandstanding about appropriate committee procedures and doing things above board. He tried to sound a note of righteous indignation when he moved to adjourn the opening meeting. There is a problem, though, with Blumenthal’s demands for integrity. He has none. The New York Times reported, in 2010, how Blumenthal asserted that he’d served in Vietnam which gave him a particular insight into the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. As the “Gray Lady” noted, “Mr. Blumenthal, a Democrat now running for the U.S. Senate, never served in Vietnam.” He got five military deferments. It doesn’t take an Ivy League education to see Blumenthal has no integrity. He’s merely another Democrat hypocrite.

Another of the leaders of this resistance to justice is Senator Cory Booker (D) from New Jersey. Prior to the opening of the hearings, Booker accused anyone who supports Kavanaugh of being “complicit in evil.” That’s the message from a potential presidential candidate? Truth is, Booker is part of the resistance movement who only seeks to thwart President Trump’s agenda which attempts to make America great again.

Booker complains of not having an honest approach to the confirmation hearing. I’m guessing he forgot about when he first entered the Senate. The Daily Beast reported, “Months after he first entered the Senate, the New Jersey comptroller alleged that under Booker’s watch—or, more likely, because he was not watching—corruption ran rampant at a publicly funded water-treatment and reservoir-management agency, where Booker’s former law partner served as counsel.” His first political opponent for mayor in Newark, a Democrat, called Booker a “phony”. Booker is one of the Democrat stalwarts standing up for truth, right?

We shouldn’t forget Senator Patrick Leahy (D) from Vermont. On the first day of the Kavanaugh hearing he rattled on about how he had been involved in more Supreme Court judiciary hearings than any other senator. He waxed long and tiresome about how well and fairly he ran the committee and how wrong things are today. I know he’s been around awhile and is advancing in years. Maybe he forgot, though, how he twisted the truth about Judge Robert Bork’s attempt to make money to cover the medical costs that his family faced. Thomas Sowell, in The Deseret News on September 28, 1987, wrote, “Senator Leahy’s ploy was a new low in these hearings.” He continued, “it was typical of a complete disregard for the truth.” So, thirty-one years later, this same Senator Leahy wants to pontificate about propriety and honesty. Strange words from the one who helped make Supreme Court nominee hearings a partisan event.

Another of the assorted characters that have come to define Democrats blasted out hate and falsehoods. Senator Kamala Harris (D) of California tweeted, “The president is an unindicted co-conspirator in federal crimes and he has nominated someone to the Supreme Court who believes a sitting president should never be indicted.” I suppose truth is something Senator Harris has yet to embrace.

Fox News legal analyst and bestselling author Gregg Jarrett rebuffed that, noting it’s “deceptive and misleading” for pundits and lawmakers to suggest President Trump is an “unindicted co-conspirator” in crimes committed by Michael Cohen. He asserts that the legal issues have yet to be sorted out and there is a strong possibility that President Trump did not break any laws with respect to the Michael Cohen confession.

These four swamp dwellers, along with allies and media friends, will attempt to harass and delay the Kavanaugh hearing. They don’t expect, necessarily, to succeed. What they hope is to gin up the resistance for the midterm elections. They want to fuel a “blue wave” with their storm of lies, obstruction and plain old rudeness.

Like many of you, I am outraged and frustrated by the Democrats and the media. Our best retort, though, is not to speak out in kind, but rather to vote. In November we have to send a resounding message that real America won’t put up with the swamp and the lies that ooze from it. We must hold the House and Senate. Vote Republican in November. It’s the best way to crush the resistance.
