NBC News Sat On A Story That Undercut Claims Against Kavanaugh By Swetnick And Avenatti

But there’s no Media (D) bias, kiddies.

NBC has been caught red-handed ‘shaping’ the news surrounding the accusations made against Brett Kavanaugh by Julie Swetnick.

As a refresher, Julie Swetnick had made some absolutely incredible claims that Brett Kavanaugh, and his friend, Mark Judge, were involved in a drugging and gang-raping ring when they were sophomores in high school.

Swetnick claims that she witnessed Kavanaugh ‘spiking’ the punch with grain alcohol and Quaaludes in order to drug teen girls so that they could be taken to a separate room and gang-raped by a line of men. Then-college-student Swetnick claimed that she had attended at least ten of these parties before she was eventually a victim of gang rape. She also claims that she saw Kavanaugh sexually aggressive with girls at the parties, trying to touch their ‘private parts’, remove clothing, rubbing his body up against girls, and pushing girls around.

Despite six FBI background checks, this was the first time such allegations were aired against Kavanaugh, and they simply don’t seem credible for a staggering variety of reasons.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has issued two criminal referrals to Creepy Porn Lawyer, Michael Avenatti, and one to his client, Julie Swetnick, in the past few days. The first was issued on Thursday, where Sen. Grassley referred both Avenatti and Swetnick to the Justice Department for a potential criminal investigation into whether or not they knowingly made false statements to the Senate Judiciary Committee in reference to the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh. The second was when a bombshell story broke about NBC News holding back from publishing a story about one of Swetnick’s alleged corroborating witnesses.

The second woman, who is unnamed, when questioned by NBC News on September 30, and several times in early October, denied what was in her sworn declaration presented by Avenatti. She also told NBC News in a text on October 5, the day before the final vote, that she felt that Avenatti ‘twisted her words.’

This led Sen. Grassley to issue a second referral against Avenatti.

Grassley wrote:

(T)he purported declarant denied — both before and after the sworn statement was released — the key allegations Mr. Avenatti attributed to her.

She stated she was clear and consistent ‘from day one’ with Mr. Avenatti that those claims were not true. And she said Mr. Avenatti ‘twisted [her] words.’ When reporters pressed him on these discrepancies, Mr. Avenatti attempted to deceive them in an apparent effort to thwart the truth coming out.

It sure sucks to be Michael Avenatti right now.

But it also really sucks to be NBC News.

The story published on Thursday has caused increased scrutiny into their handling of the story that has led to the second referral of Michael Avenatti to the Justice Department.

NBC News knew that Julie Swetnick didn’t have corroboration for her utterly unbelievable tale, and they did nothing with that.

Not only that, now that they’ve been criticized for it, they’re defending their position.

Remember, NBC had Julie Swetnick on their station for an exclusive interview conducted by Kate Snow on October 1. The same Kate Snow that co-authored the October 25th article that led to that second referral to the DOJ.

Here’s a quick summary of the NBC News article.

On September 30, a conference call with the alleged witness and several members of the Media (D) was arranged by Avenatti. During the call, the woman admitted that she didn’t know Swetnick in high school and had only become friends with her when she reached her 30s. More damning, is that she clearly stated, ‘I didn’t ever think it was Brett,’ referring to the spiking of the punch.

NBC didn’t report that.

After the Swetnick interview aired on NBC, Avenatti released the statement of the woman on October 2.

Following the public release of the statement, NBC News had contacted the woman again on October 3 to confirm what she had said in her sworn statement which read, ‘During the years 1981-82, I witnessed firsthand Brett Kavanaugh, together with others, “spike” the “punch” at house parties I attended with Quaaludes and/or grain alcohol. I understood this was being done for the purpose of making girls more likely to engage in sexual acts and less likely to say “No.”‘ and that she had witnessed Kavanaugh behave in a manner that was ‘overly aggressive and verbally abusive to girls. This conduct included inappropriate physical contact with girls of a sexual nature.’ When NBC contacted her independently from Avenatti, she denied the claims altogether. During this phone interview, she did admit to knowledge of a heavy drinking atmosphere, but when asked directly if she had ever witnessed Kavanaugh acting inappropriately around girls, she said, ‘No.‘ This directly contradicted the conference call interview that they had with the woman on September 30.

NBC didn’t report that, either.

On October 4, the woman sent a text to NBC News which read, ‘It is incorrect that I saw Brett spike the punch. I didn’t see anyone spike the punch…I was very clear with Michael Avenatti from day one.

When asked about the abuse of girls at the parties, she responded in another text, ‘I would not ever allow anyone to be abusive in my presence. Male or female.

And still, NBC didn’t think it was worth reporting.

The October 25 NBC News story by Kate Snow and Anna Schecter documents the interaction between NBC News, the woman, and Avenatti, and boy, is it telling.

At one point, in an apparent effort to thwart the reporting process, he added in the phone call, “How about this, on background, it’s not the same woman. What are you going to do with that?”

After NBC News received text messages from the woman refuting some of the claims in the declaration, NBC reached out again to Avenatti, who defended the declaration.

“I have no idea what you are talking about,” he said in a text. “I have a signed declaration that states otherwise together with multiple audio recordings where she stated exactly what is in the declaration. There were also multiple witnesses to our discussions.”

He sent a follow-up message moments later: “I just confirmed with her yet again that everything in the declaration is true and correct,” Avenatti said. “She must have been confused by your question.”

Roughly five minutes later, the woman sent a formally-worded text backing Avenatti. “Please understand that everything in the declaration is true and you should not contact me anymore regarding this issue,” the text read.

But when reached by phone minutes later, the woman again insisted that she never saw Kavanaugh spike punch or act inappropriately toward women. She said she’s “been consistent in what she’s told Michael.”

In a subsequent text on Oct. 5, she wrote, “I will definitely talk to you again and no longer Avenatti. I do not like that he twisted my words.”

It became obvious to NBC News on the day of the cloture vote that Avenatti and Swetnick’s claims were falling apart.

The final vote for Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation was held on October 6.

NBC News had days to publish that one of Avenatti’s corroborating witnesses had been interviewed and was found to have contradicted her sworn statement, but they chose not to. They even had the day before the confirmation to publish that there was something fishy about the Swetnick story, but they chose not to.

This was after they gave a ‘fair hearing’ to Julie Swetnick for 13 minutes on their network and she made news everywhere.

Watch Kate Snow’s full interview with Julie Swetnick where Snow claims that NBC ‘couldn’t independently verify the claims’ that Swetnick made against Brett Kavanaugh:

After being utterly lambasted on Twitter, Snow defended the decision to sit on the story:

That is a blatant lie. The tweets indicate that they had the information before the vote.

This thread is so disingenuous. NBC News and their leftwing tinfoil-hat branch, MSNBC, was quick to report every single salacious, anonymous accusation.

And guess what? Those turned out to be discredited, too.

But they weren’t quick to report on a woman saying that Avenatti twisted her words to push forward the utterly ridiculous ‘gang-rape’ ring story by Swetnick because it ‘was no longer newsworthy’?

Give me a break!

NBC always wants to be ‘clear and fully transparent’ says Snow.

I guess we’ll give you that much — we can see right through you, Media (D).
