WATCH: Store Owner Kills Shoplifter – Was He Right Or Wrong?

Was the shoplifter armed and dangerous, or killed in cold blood?

This case was made weirder by what the shoplifter was trying to get away with.

Hatchet in hand, the ‘customer’ tried to leave the military surplus without paying.

When caught by the shopkeeper, who asked if he was going to pay for that item, the shoplifter tried to push his way out the door, while the Dunn — a co-owner — tried to detain him.

Here’s what complicates the interaction.

The item he has stolen is a hatchet. So, strictly speaking, he was armed.

This video has no sound, which further complicates the situation when the shopkeeper draws his gun and fires.

In the 3 minutes after the shooting, it is reported that no attempt to offer medical attention was given to the man bleeding out on the sidewalk.

Still not complicated enough for ya?

The guy with the gun is also a city official in Lakeland, Florida.

Lakeland Police released surveillance video which shows a Lakeland City Commissioner shoot and killed a man who tried to steal a hatchet from his military surplus store.
[…] When asked for her reaction, she stated, “it’s just tragic all the way around, I don’t really know what else to say.”

The state attorney’s office said Monday they would have a decision by the end of the week if Dunn will face any charges.

It is not yet known whether ‘Stand your ground’ laws will be applicable to this confrontation.

What’s your take on this particular use of deadly force?
