Because They Can: Some People Don’t Care Who They Hurt To Get What They Want

Every few years it’s necessary to renew a document or two. Sometimes it’s a driver’s license, a voter registration or maybe your membership in a group. Whatever it is, take my word for it, the times they are a-changin’. It is my privilege to be able to be driving and so, in 2019, I must renew that license…and here’s where the changes come in. From what I’ve been told by an official of my state, the Department of Homeland Security requires a birth certificate before the state can renew your license, along with a few other “proofs” of residency and citizenship. Never mind that I retired from the United States Navy, that’s not good enough, or that the Navy required proofs as well. No polling has been done but my guess is that very few people of my age group(the 80’s) know where their birth certificate is…or care to know.

If the Department of Homeland Security was truly interested in homeland security there would have been a border wall the length of the border YEARS ago! Nobody, including the DHS, knows exactly how many illegal aliens are in the United States, and only “lukewarm” action is being taken to rectify that situation.

Have you been taking note of what’s been happening in our “society” these days? Chivalry, which seems to have died many decades ago, has been joined by civility and, sad to say, common decency. It seems that the ‘win-at-all-costs‘ mindset of today is putting an increasing number of people in harm’s way. Sports figures, Hollywood celebrities, and even politicians have jumped on the bandwagon to see just how cruel and uncivil they can be. I don’t know the exact number of veterans in our country today but you can bet they don’t like the disrespect shown to the flag, the National Anthem, and the President, who was legally elected, despite what the other party might want to say. Selfishness and zero respect for almost everything seems to be the order of the day, and that, historically, can be the beginnings of the downfall of a country, or perhaps a civil war. He cannot be charged with anything, or indicted for anything, but George Soros is probably behind 99% of the riotous actions of Nazi-like Antifa hoodlums as well as other groups such as the BLM.

Sports are not anything in which I’m interested, but when a laser is shined into the eye of a player on the field that’s a bad sign. The FAA, I believe, calls it a federal offense to shine a laser at an airplane in flight, blinding the pilot, so why would it be a lesser crime to blind a football player? It’s no longer a novelty to see people fighting in the stands while trying to watch a sports game. That’s behavior that has only started in the last decade I believe. No newsreel that showed fans fighting ever saw the light of day in the 1990s or even in the early 2000s. There are those who have no honor or human decency, and only desire to seize what they covet, however hollow and meaningless it will be when they finally get their hands on it. Is there nothing that can stem the tide of the ever-lowering of society’s standards?

Speaking of lowering standards, two things have happened in New York, both the city and the state. The Mayor of New York City has, in effect, said that all money belongs, not to those who earn it, but to the city. One might call the city “the state” and it wouldn’t be a stretch to call that remark, “Here’s the truth, brothers and sisters, there’s plenty of money in the world. Plenty of money in this city. It’s just in the wrong hands!” an out-and-out Communist statement. In the speech itself and in an interview with Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union,” he elaborated: the wealthy have too much money because they aren’t taxed enough. There are whole books on the correct theory of taxation. De Blasio, like many politicians, seems to operate on the theory most clearly enunciated in 1990 by Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D, Md.): “Let’s go and get it from those who’ve got it.

Being an old fashioned sort of guy myself, I don’t understand why it’s suddenly popular to take someone’s money, which they earned, with no good reason other than they have it and you don’t.

The other standard-lowering law, just signed by the Governor of New York, makes it legal to abort a fetus/baby right up until the day before birth.

Somehow that sounds like murder to me, but not being a lawyer, I could be wrong about that. In any event, it’s not right and don’t ask me when life begins because I don’t know…that’s both a legal and moral question, fraught with disaster for anyone foolish enough to stand one way or the other on that.

Parting shot: We are, all of us, living in perilous times. For anyone making an opinion known there are not only those who will dissent, there very well may be some that would kill you for having that opinion! Gone are the days, apparently, when both sides of a question could be argued with vim and vigor and when it was over, go out and have a beer with your opponent. Hostility has replaced gentility it seems.
