Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has made headlines during the past few months for her plan to impose a 70% tax hike on the rich in order as part of her New Green Deal. And she seemed ecstatic when Amazon announced it would not build its headquarters in New York City.
But AOC is not the only socialist politician who has been recently making waves.
Andrew Cuomo, the pro-abortion Governor of New York, also favors taxing the rich in his state, which has some of the highest taxes in the country, so high that many people have moved to other states. Ironically, one of them is Blanca Ocasio-Cortez, the mother of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
But moving to another state won’t be the end of paying taxes to the Empire State.
New York state auditors have carried out non-residency audits on those who moved to other states. In fact, 3,000 of such audits were done between 2010 and 2017, resulting in the collection of $1 billion. The wealthy were the primary targets of those being audited.
It should be noted that New York’s population has decreased as the result of its high taxes.
And the legality of such non-residency audits might be in question, especially if the purpose of the audit is punishing an individual for moving to a state with lower taxes.
Let’s face it. If someone who lived in New York decided to move to another state where the taxes weren’t as high, and that individual had always filed their taxes and paid whatever they owed when they lived in New York, then why are they being audited? Is it punishment for moving to another state, or is it out of desperation since New York has a $2.3 billion deficit?
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Warren has advocated breaking up companies such as Apple, Amazon, Facebook, and Google, while at the same time claiming that she is not a socialist.
It seems that she wants to be a trustbuster like Theodore Roosevelt, who in reality broke up only a few trusts during his administration.
Ironically, the top dogs at Google, Apple, and Facebook are just as left-leaning as Elizabeth Warren is, considering the fact that Facebook and Google have a tendency to censor or even conservatives, Apple supports the homosexual agenda, and Amazon aired a multicultural ad a few years ago with a Catholic priest and a Muslim cleric.
Needless to say, the anti-corporate politicians are turning on the corporations that support them, whether it be sharing the same views or providing money (e.g. funding leftist causes, campaign contributions), which is nothing new.
I wonder how much money Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Apple have contributed to Elizabeth Warren’s campaigns over the years, or any other liberal for that matter.
