A high-speed chase led to a dangerous rolling shoot-out in California on May 10.
Investigators were acting on a tip that identified a man who was wanted for a liquor store shooting on May 7 which killed 44-year old Gurpreet Singh who was working alone at the time. The tip indicated that the possible suspect was seen leaving a residence.
The chase began in the Maywood area southeast of downtown Los Angeles. The suspect leaned out of the passenger side window and opened fire on officers during the high-speed pursuit. The weapon was described as a large-caliber revolver, similar in appearance to the one that was used to kill Singh.
The passenger, identified by police as the man wanted in the shooting death earlier this week of a Downey convenience store employee, fired several shots from the Toyota Prius, traveling at high speeds on the busy 710 Freeway. The man remained hospitalized with “numerous injuries” late Friday after a shootout with police and deputies that followed the chase on a street in the Vernon area, according to the sheriff’s department…
…At least one Downey Police Department patrol vehicle was struck by gunfire during the chase, investigators said. No law enforcement officers were injured…
…According to investigators, four Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputies and two Downey Police Department officers opened fire during the gun battle.

Many innocent people were caught in the chase and one man was grazed by a bullet but didn’t suffer serious injuries.

Eventually, the Prius was stopped after being boxed in by police. The female driver exited the vehicle with what appeared to be blood on her shirt.
After 45 minutes of no response from the passenger, two SWAT vehicles pulled up directly in front and to the side of the Prius to check on the man. Deputies used a robot to look into the car before sending in a police dog to the driver’s side door. The man was then pulled from the car by deputies in SWAT gear and he was transported by an ambulance to the hospital.

If he’s ‘tough’ enough to start shooting at cops and endangering passers-by, why is he driving such a sissy car?
If you can’t even hop a curb, crash through a barrier, or get some serious speed going, why bother with the ‘getaway’ at all?
