The NRA Warns Trump – Here’s The 411

Trump, despite everything his critics accuse him of, cares a lot about the suffering of those he was elected to represent Red AND Blue — will that compassion cloud his judgment on this issue?

We hope not, but some of the early signs are pointing to him responding to the demands to ‘do something’. And just like the Bump Stock reaction to Las Vegas the ‘doing something’ might have nothing to do with actual solutions.

President Trump said Wednesday that he is in favor of passing legislation to tighten background checks for gun purchasers, but warned that banning high-powered weapons is a non-starter in Congress.

“I’m looking to do background checks,” Trump told reporters at the White House as he left to visit the scenes of the mass shootings that hit El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio over the weekend. “I think background checks are important. I don’t want to put guns into the hands of mentally unstable people or people with rage or hate — sick people. I’m all in favor of it.”

Congress, however, has not shown a “political appetite” for banning high-powered weapons such as the semi-automatic AR-15 rifle, which is sometimes used in mass shootings in the U.S., Trump said.

“You have to have a political appetite within Congress, and so far I haven’t seen that,” Trump said. “I think there’s a great appetite to do something with regard to making sure mentally unstable, seriously ill people aren’t carrying guns, and I’ve never seen the appetite as strong as it is now. I have not seen it with regards to certain types of weapons.”

“Do something.”

We’re old enough to remember reports from, maybe a month ago, that in Vegas — just like in Parkland — the real problem was the cop who cowered in fear when the time came to serve and protect.

“I’m inside the Mandalay Bay on the 31st floor,” Hendrex says in the video. “I can hear the automatic fire coming from one floor ahead, one floor above us.”

In a report, he later wrote that he “froze right there in the middle of the hall” after being terrified.

The other problem we’ve seen with many of these situations is hug-a-thug policies too gutless to identify any of these eventual mass-murderers as a risk — or else a paperwork snafu like what we saw with Sutherland Springs lets someone who should ALREADY be legally disqualified to purchase the firearms he used for his killing spree. It also does nothing to address the numerous crimes committed by felons who were unlawfully in possession of the firearm used in the commission of a crime.

And most of our readers would not need it explained to them that the AR-15 is by NO means a ‘high-powered’ weapon.

Here’s how the NRA officially responded to the same violence giving rise to calls to ‘do something’ in their 18 tweet thread.

And let’s not forget that any policy that is MADE will also have to be implemented. And there are real risks and real people impacted by that implementation. For example, the Red Flag law:

We’ve all seen the dishonest games the left have played with the power they’re entrusted with, they’re obviously unworthy of that trust.

But what about 2020? Could a moral person pull a lever for Trump with their integrity intact? Would Jesus himself vote for Trump? We’re glad you asked. There’s a brand new book that covers precisely that question:

“Would Jesus Vote For Trump?” by Doug Giles and Brandon Vallorani.

Would Jesus ever choose someone, with a less than stellar past, to be a leader? Would Jesus be cool with how Trump blasts CNN, The Left, and his feckless ‘compadres’ on The Right? What about Health Care? Would the Great Physician give Trump’s opposition to ObamaCare the ‘two thumbs up?’ Find out in this BEST-SELLER!
