Just when you think things couldn’t get more stupid — another news story proves you wrong.
Everything is racist now, even Halloween decor.
In a town about 25 miles from New York City, a law firm got into a bit of trouble for their seasonal display — they included several black jack o’lanterns alongside the regular orange pumpkins. Of course, this sparked outrage!
Although alternate colored pumpkins — like white, black — have been used across the country for many years in Halloween displays, the faces on these pumpkins sparked outrage.
(It’s probably President Trump’s fault somehow, although how the leftists don’t think that he’d favor the orange ones is beyond me.)
The complaints to the law office made it to the local news and they decided to “investigate” the “controversial” display.
Now, I don’t know what it’s like to live in Nyack, New York, but it must be absolute bliss if this is a real issue that makes it to the news desk and requires an in-depth investigation. You see, that’s precisely what News 12 did. The discussed it with the Law office…
The reaction from some community members led the Feerick, Nugent, MacCartney Law Offices to take the pumpkins down less than 48 hours after setting them out on the porch.
“We understand that someone complained about them and so once we got word of that we immediately took them down,” says Mary Marzolla, a partner at the law firm.
…
“We represent people of all colors and faiths, and we would never do anything to exclude anyone from any community,” she says.
…then they asked residents their thoughts.
(One resident’s perspective is absolutely hilarious, “They’re pumpkins. Black pumpkins, idiots. That’s all there is.”)
But that wasn’t enough for the investigative team. They went all-out and brought the situation to the attention of the NAACP.
Take a wild guess what the NAACP thought of the display?
I’ll give you a hint: they weren’t fans.
Local NAACP Director Wilbur Aldridge says it shows an “extreme lack of sensitivity.”
Though they have been removed, both attorneys say they wonder why the decorations didn’t raise flags at Bed Bath & Beyond, the store where they were purchased.
You know what that means for the intrepid reporters, right? It was an opportunity to fight racism, bigotry, hatred and xenophobia! They contacted Bed Bath & Beyond and told them how incredibly offensive the black jack o’lanterns were so the store removed them from shelves.
Bed Bath & Beyond apologized, saying that any offense was unintentional and that it “immediately removed” the pumpkins from sale.
The store says it took action after News 12 reached out but would not say if it had received any other complaints.

Excellent work, reporters! You’ve done it!
Our timeline just got even more stupid.
JFC, can the people at the NAACP not use Google? Google “black pumpkins”. These have been used as Halloween decorations for ages, along with white pumpkins and lots of other colors. There are even real pumpkins that are nearly black https://t.co/ptOFaV9oOi

Look at all those pumpkins who will now never realize their dreams of becoming the governor of Virginia, or if they’re in Canada, even Prime Minister.

I think most people are missing the greatest crime of all…
And they missed the chance to call them black-o’-lanterns.

Journalists aren’t just there to expose the truth in a bland, uninteresting way — they should do it with panache! And that witticism would have done it.
Perspective, people. Perspective.
