Do you ever wonder what a petty, vindictive hall monitor goes on to be when they grow up? Wonder no longer.
They grow up to be those ‘can I speak to your manager’ types the Internet has dubbed ‘Karen’. You know the type. They’ve always got their nose in someone else’s business and are desperately afraid that somebody, somewhere, might be having a good time.
Something about the lockdown mentality and the 24/7 fear porn of the news cycle has bred a new strain of these Karens. It’s the obey the rules or grannie’s going to die social-distancing strain.
Logic and reason have nothing to do with it. These are the people who fill skate parks with sand, who send police to investigate a scarecrow on the beach holding a fishing rod (that was top-tier trolling, congrats to whoever did that), who send about 10 cops to investigate a church service of 10 people, or three cops with guns drawn to investigate a teen dressed as a Star Wars stormtrooper.
In this clip, ‘Karen’ has found a young guy on a BMX trying to test his skill at mastering a new trick, jumping down an epic flight of stairs.
She is hellbent on stopping it. Meanwhile the kid is hellbent on doing it whether she likes it or not. She’s got a little enforcement cart to help her push that killjoy weight of hers around. But her ‘courageous stand’ doesn’t work out quite as well as she planned.

We live in a time and place where killjoys try to stamp out any spark of independence or masculine risk-taking wherever it may be found.
Imagine if they’d encountered Jesus as he really is, rather than the soft-focus pastel portrait of him foisted on us by today’s crappy culture. They would have absolutely lost their minds!
No wonder the cultural ‘leaders’ of his day decided Christ was a problem that needed to be done away with. Little did they know.
