Cancel Craziness Of The Left

George Orwell wrote in his book 1984, “The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power.” No truer words could be written about the Left and the media in our culture today.

Our country has entered into a time of mind-numbing hypocrisy. The Left and their more than willing media accomplices have decided that anyone who dares to think differently than they do has to be opposed, shamed, and, if possible, silenced. Consider Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy.

Gundy had the audacity to be pictured wearing a One America News Network t-shirt. CBS writer Kyle Boone first tweeted out the picture. He added some context as well, noting that Gundy expressed that he was “a little disappointed in all the negativity” of the mainstream media regarding the pandemic. He added that he found OAN “refreshing.” So, to be clear, Gundy wore a t-shirt and thought the news coverage of OAN was refreshing. That’s what he did.

Boone’s tweet was picked up by OSU running back Chuba Hubbard who then tweeted, “I will not stand for this. This is completely insensitive to everything going on in society, and it’s unacceptable. I will not be doing anything with Oklahoma State until things CHANGE.”

Hubbard’s reaction is strong. What is so offensive about OAN? They are a conservative news network, some of whose commentators have not spoken highly of the Black Lives Matter movement.

I get that people will agree or disagree with OAN’s stance, but this is still America, right?  It ought to be that if Coach Gundy likes OAN, he can wear the shirt. If Chuba Hubbard doesn’t like it, he doesn’t have to wear it. If Hubbard is in favor of BLM, then he can support that and wear shirts that support it. That makes sense.

Not to the Left, though. Calls for Gundy’s firing and attacks on his character filled the media. ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum demanded OSU fire Gundy.

Sports Illustrated columnist Pat Forde provides this “unbiased” assessment. “Mike Gundy is probably not the only college football coach who watches One America News Network, the right-wing conspiracy factory that is in favor with America’s sitting president. But he’s certainly the most proudly public about his OAN allegiance, and that tone-deaf decision is becoming increasingly problematic.”

The ridiculously biased article ends, “Gundy is …a $5 million-a-year head coach with a cocksure attitude—about everything. And now he’s planted himself in front of a speeding locomotive of player empowerment. Good luck withstanding this impact, Coach Mullet.”

According to the rules of the new “WOKE” Left, a person has to think the right thoughts, say the right things, and oppose the right people, or s/he is in big trouble.

Am I going overboard a bit? I don’t think so. Consider Never-Trump Rick Wilson’s inane attacks on Domino’s Pizza.

In 2012 Kayleigh McEnaney, who is currently President Trump’s press secretary but at the time was just “Kayleigh,” tweeted on November 12, 2012, “FUN FACT: @dominos is wayyyy better than any NYC pizza”

Domino’s replied to McEnaney’s tweet, “@kayleighmcenany That’s one heck of a compliment! Thanks for the love! #WEAPPRECIATEIT!”

Wilson dug up these eight-year-old tweets and attempted to besmirch Domino’s tweeting, “You just killed your brand. #ETTD.” The “ETTD” reference is to his anti-Trump book.

Domino’s, though, has not suffered much in the way of financial loss and won the reply battle by tweeting, “Welp. It’s unfortunate that thanking a customer for a compliment back in 2012 would be viewed as political. Guess that’s 2020 for ya.”

This whole incident is ludicrous. However, the Domino’s tweet is absolutely right. “Guess that’s 2020 for ya.”

Make no mistake about it. The Left and the media are engaged in a full attack on anyone who doesn’t agree with them. Differing opinions are not only not welcomed, they are, if possible, shamed into silence.

Roger Goodell of the NFL has apologized for the league’s stance on respecting the American flag during the national anthem. While I understand the debate around this issue, apparently in 2020, no debate is allowed. Dissenting opinions are not okay.

Catering to the demands of the extreme left goes beyond the NFL. Many companies, colleges and universities have given in to the “group think.”

Where does the madness end? No one knows for sure, but it does seem like the Woke Left and the Media are pushing the envelope further than most Americans will go. I know of no one who wasn’t outraged at the death of George Floyd. I know of no one who thinks police brutality, however rare, is okay. I also don’t know very many who support defunding the police and demanding “group think.”

November 3, 2020 will be the day of reckoning. The nature of our country will be determined in a big way that day.
