TECH TYRANNY: Two Rightwing News Sites Have Been Banned By Google Ads For ‘Violations’ Over BLM Protest Articles

Big Tech is busily creating an echo-chamber and jealously guarding it against the “wrong” views.

We all know that–generally speaking–print media, cable news, and social media all lean to the left, as does social media. The areas where conservative ideas still have a stronghold and can be discussed openly is on talk radio, through podcasts, and online “alternative media” websites.

The Tech Giants are going after some of those as well.

NBC News reports that two “far-right” news websites have been banned from receiving revenue from Google Ads for “unsubstantiated claims” when reporting on the recent BLM/George Floyd protests. No, we’re not talking about some white supremacist websites, the two sites listed are The Federalist and ZeroHedge.

Is it wrong to note that in their “reporting” of this news they’ve used the derogatory term “far-right” to label both websites while NBC News would likely label themselves as an objective news organization?

A Google spokesperson said in an email that it took action after determining the websites violated its policies on content related to race.

“We have strict publisher policies that govern the content ads can run on and explicitly prohibit derogatory content that promotes hatred, intolerance, violence or discrimination based on race from monetizing,” the spokesperson wrote. “When a page or site violates our policies, we take action. In this case, we’ve removed both sites’ ability to monetize with Google.”

(Emphasis Added)

Whoa! Sounds like both sites were doing something horribly wrong, doesn’t it?

Well, it turns out, not so much. It doesn’t seem to be their reporting at all. The violations that they are being demonetized for occurred in the comments section.

After publication of this story, Google added that it takes into account all of the content on a website including comments to determine if a policy violation has occurred, which is where the policy violations occurred.

(Emphasis added)

Google notified ZeroHedge last week of policy violations and has now banned it from monetization. On Tuesday, Google made The Federalist aware of the violations and they now have three days to remove the problematic comments.

We have seen that YouTube frequently targets and demonetizes conservative videos, Facebook purged tons of right-leaning websites in 2018, Twitter recently “fact-checked” the President’s tweets, Pinterest was “blacklisting” conservative websites, and even a knitting website made all conservatives personae non-gratae.

It’s because the heads of Big Tech companies are left-leaning and are determined to punish their enemies.

Google isn’t critical of the Black Lives Matter movement because they agree with it and cannot understand why anyone would be critical of a self-described black liberation movement that wants to “disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another.” Google has donated big bucks to anti-racism organizations.

As the Black Lives Matter protests unfolded over recent weeks, hundreds of corporations eagerly lent their support. This includes Google, which said it has donated “$12 million in funding to organizations working to address racial inequities.”

There are other similar websites that continue to generate revenue through Google, causing continued concern for civil rights advocates. In its report, the Center for Countering Digital Hate pointed to examples of articles on other far-right websites such that carried advertisements by well-known brands while disseminating false narratives about the protest movement.

They’re taking a stand, and it’s going to be harder for conservative sites to stay alive.

You’ll notice that Google hasn’t gone after leftist sites like MotherJones, Bustle, or The Root for the hateful content and/or comments against conservatives on there. That’s because those comments are acceptable.

This whole incident seems to prove true what Andrew Sullivan wrote in a recent New York Magazine article about the end of reasonalbe debate in 2020 America.

Sullivan said that the new belief is that journalism should choose a side rather than be objective, or even acknowledge all sides of an issue. Of course, that one side should be the one that has “moral clarity”–the one that believes America is “systemically racist” and that it was founded upon white supremacy and the oppression of black people, and the justice system simply reinforces this racial inequality.

The new orthodoxy — what the writer Wesley Yang has described as the “successor ideology” to liberalism — seems to be rooted in what journalist Wesley Lowery calls “moral clarity.” He told Times media columnist Ben Smith this week that journalism needs to be rebuilt around that moral clarity, which means ending its attempt to see all sides of a story, when there is only one, and dropping even an attempt at objectivity (however unattainable that ideal might be). And what is the foundational belief of such moral clarity? That America is systemically racist, and a white-supremacist project from the start, that, as Lowery put it in The Atlantic, “the justice system — in fact, the entire American experiment — was from its inception designed to perpetuate racial inequality.” (Wesley Lowery objected to this characterization of his beliefs — read his Twitter thread about it here.)…

…The orthodoxy goes further than suppressing contrary arguments and shaming any human being who makes them. It insists, in fact, that anything counter to this view is itself a form of violence against the oppressed. The reason some New York Times staffers defenestrated op-ed page editor James Bennet was that he was, they claimed, endangering the lives of black staffers by running a piece by Senator Tom Cotton, who called for federal troops to end looting, violence, and chaos, if the local authorities could not. This framing equated words on a page with a threat to physical life — the precise argument many students at elite colleges have been using to protect themselves from views that might upset them. But, as I noted two years ago, we all live on campus now.

In this manic, Manichean world you’re not even given the space to say nothing. “White Silence = Violence” is a slogan chanted and displayed in every one of these marches. It’s very reminiscent of totalitarian states where you have to compete to broadcast your fealty to the cause. In these past two weeks, if you didn’t put up on Instagram or Facebook some kind of slogan or symbol displaying your wokeness, you were instantly suspect. The cultishness of this can be seen in the way people are actually cutting off contact with their own families if they don’t awaken and see the truth and repeat its formulae. Ibram X. Kendi insists that there is no room in our society for neutrality or reticence. If you are not doing “antiracist work” you are ipso facto a racist. By “antiracist work” he means fully accepting his version of human society and American history, integrating it into your own life, confessing your own racism, and publicly voicing your continued support.

It’s a great piece that you really should read. Sullivan writes, “there is an increasingly ferocious campaign to quell dissent, to chill debate, to purge those who ask questions, and to ruin people for their refusal to swallow this reductionist ideology whole” and that there is no room in this new movement for “genuine, respectful disagreement” of the assertion that America is built on oppression.

It’s now get woke or we’ll make you broke.

According to The Daily Caller, it was the NBC News Verification Unit that brought the violations to Google’s attention.

The NBC News Verification Unit notified Google of a report from a British think tank that accused The Federalist of running insensitive content related to the protests over Floyd’s death.

NBC News, which cited a report from the Center for Countering Digital Hate, said that the offending article from The Federalist had claimed “the media had been lying about looting and violence during the protests.”

The NBC News story caused some confusion after it was published because Google disputed the claim that The Federalist has already been de-monetized from the Google Ads platform.
