While teacher’s unions threaten to strike at the prospect of returning to work in the fall, claiming their lives are being put in danger, there is another side of this coin to consider.
The wellbeing of the children themselves.
It is a statistical FACT that — for reasons that may not yet be fully understood — children are much better at resisting the virus than adults are.
But that does NOT mean they are immune to all the secondary effects that have sprung up in connection to the response to the shutdown.
Those effects have hit kids hard.
Deaths from suicides and drug overdoses currently exceed deaths due to the COVID-19 virus, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) director Dr. Robert Redfield warned during a medical presentation earlier this month.
“I think that the cost to our nation in continuing to keep these schools closed is substantial, and I’m hopeful that resources that are necessary can be made available,” Redfield said during a July 14 webinar hosted by the Buck Institute. “But there has been another cost that we’ve seen, particularly in high schools.”
“We’re seeing, sadly, far greater suicides now than we are deaths from COVID,” he lamented. “We’re seeing far greater deaths from drug overdose that are above excess that we had as background than we are seeing the deaths from COVID.”
Redfield went on to stress that this is why health must be viewed in light of the “overall social being of individuals,” which in this instance, he argued required working to “get these schools open in a way that people are comfortable and they’re safe.” — LifeSiteNews
Gee, whatever happened to all those cries of…
Oh, right. They really care a LOT about the children… when they can leverage the kids for something they want.
But the rest of the time?
Why are teachers so Hellbent on keeping schools closed, playing the ‘martyr’ card — with some even ready to strike against the idea of online teaching — while other essential workers are going to work stocking shelves, running hospitals, or policing our streets?
Why are we seeing ‘daycares’ opening in SCHOOL buildings for kids up to 8th grade in some of the very same places — or buildings! — where officials don’t want to reopen schools?
Because many of these people don’t care about the children NEARLY as much as they care about an agenda.
Then again, with Teacher’s unions being the Democrat cash cow they are, this is hardly surprising.
