“A crisis is a terrible thing to waste.” These words were uttered first by Stanford economist Paul Romer and echoed by both Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.
Today, the Democrat party and their media accomplices are doing all they can to milk two different crises: the death of George Floyd and COVID-19.
The economic shutdown and the lockdowns across the county devastated huge numbers of people. The Democrats and the media could not have cared any less. The Los Angeles Times opined in late March this year, “But just because we want the nation back at work doesn’t mean it can happen just yet.” They were not alone in cheering for closing the country.
As the Left eagerly applauded the shutdown, they also maliciously reported the economic duress that faced the country. Vox opened a May 5, 2020 article with these words, “The economic toll of the coronavirus pandemic is immense, with tens of millions unemployed and the US economy shrinking at a rate unseen in more than a decade.”
It was a double-edged attack built on a foundation of lies, but they hoped it might sink President Trump and propel frail Joe Biden to the White House.
Reality, though, crashed through the lies. The economy began roaring back. May and June 2020 job numbers were incredible and far exceeded expectations. 4.8 million jobs were added in June, making the two-month total over 7.5 million! According to Steve Forbes, the economy is rebounding.
Of course, none of this was good news to the left, whose hatred for the president trumped anything good for America. Then, a new crisis to exploit emerged. George Floyd was brutally killed.
It didn’t matter that even the liberal Vox noted that incidents of police brutality against unarmed African American citizens had declined since 2013. This was a new crisis to use. Use it they did. George Floyd, it seems to me, has long been forgotten.
Systemic racism was initially the trigger. That was followed by mobs tearing down Confederate statues. When that was done, the mobs turned to other statues, including Grant, Lincoln, and Roosevelt. It was no longer a peaceful protest about police brutality. It became a crusade to reshape and redo America.
The virus and lockdowns were a thing of the past.
It’s important, though, to remember. Before Floyd’s death, the liberals came down hard on those who protested lockdowns. Vox headlined a story, “The whiteness of anti-lockdown protests: How ignorance, privilege, and anti-black racism is driving white protesters to risk their lives.”
In the age of the liberal protest, however, the virus didn’t matter.
NPR wrote, “Mass protests that have erupted over police brutality toward black people in America are raising concerns about the risk of spreading the coronavirus. But some health experts, even as they urge caution, said they support the demonstrations — because racism also poses a dire health threat.”
A letter, signed by hundreds of health experts, noted “the risks of congregating during a global pandemic shouldn’t keep people from protesting racism.”
It’s not hard to see the hypocrisy. Protests exploded and became riots. As the mobs were emboldened by the inaction of blue-state leaders, violence erupted, and the media mostly ignored it.
A teen was killed in Seattle’s “CHOP” zone last week and the people there did nothing. Through early June, seventeen people died in the riots including retired St. Louis police captain David Dorn. The violence continues to escalate.
The Democrats are all in. Change the culture by whatever means seems to have become their mission statement.
A movement was launched to diminish the Fourth of July and Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) lauded protesters as “brave Americans.”
The Democrats and their media allies want to remake America.
I want to state, for the record, that the United States is not nor has she ever been perfect. She is in the process of forming a “more perfect union.” However, the Democrats, the rioters and their media apologists want to trash the values and traditions that Americans have always had. If they succeed, the country will never be the same.
President Trump has taken a stand. In remarks made July 3, 2020, at Mt. Rushmore, the president said, “Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values, and indoctrinate our children. Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our Founders, deface our most sacred memorials, and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities.”
The president emphatically declared, “This attack on our liberty, our magnificent liberty, must be stopped, and it will be stopped very quickly. We will expose this dangerous movement, protect our nation’s children, end this radical assault, and preserve our beloved American way of life.”
Remaking America is the vision of the Left. President Trump offers order and traditional American values. The choice has never been clearer or more important.
