New York Planned Parenthood REMOVES Margaret Sanger’s Name From Clinic Over Ties To Eugenics Movement
It looks like “cancel culture” is finally turning on leftist hero, Margaret Sanger.
The New York Times is reporting that Planned Parenthood of Greater New York has decided to remove the name of Margaret Sanger from their clinic due to her “harmful connections to the eugenics movement.”
Who would have ever thought that they’d actually admit the overtly racist history of the Planned Parenthood founder and highly revered feminist icon?
Ms. Sanger, a public health nurse who opened the first birth control clinic in the United States in Brooklyn in 1916, has long been lauded as a feminist icon and reproductive-rights pioneer.
But her legacy also includes supporting eugenics, a discredited belief in improving the human race through selective breeding, often targeted at poor people, those with disabilities, immigrants and people of color.
“The removal of Margaret Sanger’s name from our building is both a necessary and overdue step to reckon with our legacy and acknowledge Planned Parenthood’s contributions to historical reproductive harm within communities of color,” Karen Seltzer, the chair of the New York affiliate’s board, said in a statement.
But what’s interesting is that the group is pushing to remove Sanger’s name not just from their own building, but from at least one public space as well.
The group is also talking to city leaders about replacing Ms. Sanger’s name on a street sign that has hung near its offices on Bleecker Street for more than two decades.
Who could have imagined that the left would turn on its own beloved patron saint like this?
For decades those on the left have defended Sanger and dismissed claims that she was racist. “Oh, sure, she spoke to wives of KKK members, said that poor people should be put on farms and made to work, and called other races inferior and that they should be exterminated, but that’s just taken out of context!” says some leftist somewhere.
The hateful, racist woman has an award named after her. As a matter of fact, Hillary received the Margaret Sanger Award given by Planned Parenthood back in 2009, and during her speech, Clinton said that she “admired Margaret Sanger enormously.”
What’s really interesting is that this move is coming just a month after the ouster of New York Planned Parenthood’s CEO, Laura McQuade, for allegedly berating employees and specifically treating black employees badly.
Of course, some of Sanger’s fans are saying that her views are “misinterpreted” and out of context.
Yeah, that’s a big no-go for me.
If Roseanne Barr can be tossed off of her own show for a tweet about Valerie Jarrett that she says was completely misconstrued, the Founding Fathers who opposed slavery can be tossed aside because their ideals didn’t live up to their actions, and Christopher Columbus can be ditched because of Howard Zinn’s one-sided history, then the woman who called for the extermination of “inferior races” can have her name taken off of the murder mill that she founded.
There is no possible context that would deem classifying entire racial groups as “human weeds” as acceptable.
But, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, the largest affiliate in the country, is trying to erase its racist history by employing Merle McGee, as their “Equity and Engagement Officer” who is going to “recognize Black women and others who also championed the reproductive justice movement.”
It seems that the decision to ditch Sanger’s name has made some strange bedfellows with harsh critics of Planned Parenthood–pro-life conservatives who are praising the move. But Ms. McGee isn’t worried about being connected to conservatives because they’re not going to erase Sanger completely–it’s more of a gentle “whitewashing” of the history of Planned Parenthood.
They’re also not changing their practices. Dropping Margaret Sanger’s name from their building doesn’t mean much if they keep her practices going, does it?
The decision to drop Ms. Sanger’s name from the clinic creates an unusual alignment between the New York group and anti-abortion conservatives like Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, and Ben Carson, the federal housing secretary, who have pointed to Ms. Sanger’s belief in eugenics to criticize Planned Parenthood and its mission.
Ms. McGee said the group could not worry about how conservative figures might react to the move, which she described as a response to the concerns of patients and people of color.
“We’re not going to obliterate her,” Ms. McGee said. “If we obliterate her, we cannot reckon with her.”

Too bad they don’t show the same consideration to the Founding Fathers and Christopher Columbus that they do to an overtly racist woman who was pro-genocide and pro-slavery (ie. forcing the poor to work on farms).
If the left didn’t have double standards, they wouldn’t have standards at all.
