WTF? Twitter Locked Accounts Of Users With The Star Of David As Profile Pics–Here’s The 411

Twitter says it was all a mistake, but this is not a good look as antisemitism around the world is on the rise.

The Jerusalem Post reported that several users found that their accounts were blocked because Twitter deemed the yellow Star of David was a “hateful image.”

The Campaign Against Antisemitism has reported that several Twitter users have contacted them in recent days to report that their accounts had been locked by the social media platform. The reason given? According to messages they received from Twitter: “We have determined that this account violated the Twitter Rules. Specifically for: Violating our rules against posting hateful imagery. You may not use hateful images or symbols in your profile image or profile header. As a result, we have locked your account.”

A handful of screenshots of the alleged Twitter violations were shared:

Twitter claimed that the removal of the images was due to a crackdown on the posting of the “yellow star” which was used by Nazis to identify Jews during World War II, and is currently being used to target Jewish Twitter users.

Campaign Against Anti-Semitism, who received complaints from Twitter users after their profiles were shut down, told MailOnline that the platform’s response to anti-Semitism was ‘inept’.

Stephen Silverman, Director of Investigations and Enforcement at the Jewish anti-Semitism campaign group said: ‘Only one of the accounts locked featured a yellow star, and it very clearly did so as a means of reclaiming the yellow stars used by the Nazis.

‘This is precisely the kind of inept response to antisemitism that we have come to expect from Twitter, which just last week tried to convince us that the viral antisemitic #JewishPrivilege hashtag was legitimate.

‘We would happily help Twitter, but they largely ignore us when we approach them. It seems that Twitter prefers to go after Jewish users who proudly display their identity but not after antisemitic users who unabashedly promote anti-Jewish vitriol.’

Twitter published a response to the reporting on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Twitter announced that it was also going to crack down on the QAnon accounts because Chrissy Tiegan insisted that she would be leaving the platform until they were dealt with. Tiegan got all upset that some of the conspiracy theorists were taking her disgusting old tweets about children and suggesting that she had some pedo tendencies. Let’s be clear, her tweets weren’t funny, they were gross. Should she be canceled over them? Eh…I’ve never been a fan and always thought she was kind of a vile human, but she’s probably harmless in the grand scheme of things. But funnily enough, although she was deleting 60K tweets and blocking 1M people for fear of being “canceled” she’s also championing the canceling of QAnon accounts. Seems hypocritical.

Twitter is saying that some “mistakes were made” with regard to the Star of David pics, but somehow these “mistakes” of removing accounts don’t ever seem to include people like Louis Farrakhan, Iranian Mullahs, or leftists fomenting violence on the streets and organizing statue-toppling.

Weird, eh?

What could be the reason for that, I wonder…
