Black Students Petitioned NYU To Have A ‘Black Only’ Dorm–Is That Racist?

While the left is tearing down statues of the Founders and Abolitionists for “racism” they’re advocating for Jim Crow-like policies that were used to entrench racism. That makes no sense.

I don’t know about you, but my head hurts trying to comprehend the “logic” of the left.

Two black students created a petition to have “racially-segregated housing for black and “black-identifying” students. It states calls for “floors completely comprised of Black-identifying students with Black Resident Assistants.”

“Black-identifying”? I guess that means that Shaun King and Rachel Dolezal would be welcome in that dorm.

Brenah Johnson and Nia Robertson told Fox News that they started the initiative to “create a space” for black students because “NYU is a predominantly white institution, making it very difficult for Black students to connect or find community, especially when incidents involving racism occur.” Although the petition contains clearly exclusionary language, Johnson and Roberts say that it isn’t about excluding anyone but an opportunity to create a “space where Black students can feel included.”

What’s shocking is that this petition calling for racial segregation got over 1,000 signatures.

Although they managed to get so much support, the university has denied their request.

Some confusing reporting by a Socialist publication, and a partial response by the university made it appear as though NYU had caved to the demand–but that isn’t the case.

“NYU does not have and will not create student housing that excludes any student based on race,” John Beckman, a spokesperson for the university, told Reason…

…Beckman told the student paper that NYU looked forward to working with the students to implement some of their goals. In a statement to Reason, he clarified what he meant.

“Earlier in the summer, a group of Black students reached out to NYU’s Office of Housing and Residential Life and applied to establish an Exploration Floor around the themes of Black history and culture; NYU has about 30 themed Exploration Floors,” he said. “During the course of the discussion about the application process—which is ongoing—the Housing Office staff made clear that all Exploration Floors must be open to applicants of all races and backgrounds.”

Calling for racial segregation in various ways on college campuses seems to be a growing trend these days.

It’s disturbing that so many people think that the answer to discrimination (or perceived discrimination) is segregation rather than integration. Separating people will only enflame racial tensions instead of easing them. We get along better when we understand each other–even if we disagree.

These wokescolds don’t even seem to realize that in the way that they’re tearing down the statues of the Founders and advocating for things that would make those old-school Dixicrats in the Jim Crow-era South very, very proud.

There’s not much daylight between the Woke crowd and Racists.

Maybe that’s why a-hole racist Richard Spencer is tossing his support behind Joe and the identity politics icon, Kamala.
