Dick Morris has had some success at reading the political tea leaves. For one thing, he predicted a Trump surge in 2016 when others didn’t. He’s making the case for Trump picking Lagoa despite the popularity of ACB.
He sees a win-win scenario where Lagoa will not only be a pick that makes his base happy but one that will force the hand of the Left to rip off their masks and show exactly how vicious and cruel they really are.
The Left’s base will have no choice but to go all-in on attacking whoever Trump nominates.
Morris is saying that instinct can be made to boomerang against them. Why?

The pro side for both her and ACB comes out as a wash. The base will be happy with either candidate.
But if we put Lagoa into the same slot, the Democrats could step on exactly the same landmine that Joe Biden did back in the days when they tried to ‘Bork’ Clarence Thomas.
You remember Thomas’s objection to Biden’s haranguing, don’t you?
He took Biden behind the gym and gave him a rhetorical beating, exposing him to all the world for what he really was.

If the left ever unleashes their undiluted hatred on Lagoa, a Hispanic Catholic woman, this could come as a wake-up call to some of the same special interest groups Democrats are so anxious to leverage.
Laying a beat-down on Lagoa because she holds to Catholic beliefs isn’t just forbidden by the Constitution, it would also make the Democrats look really bad, tawdry, and small.
Having seen how they have already gone down this road before, they almost can’t help themselves.
