If Biden actually thought the militant Leftists in his party would let him promise a drift to the center, he has seriously underestimated their commitment to the Revolution.
The folks who have spent this summer marching in the streets, or clashing with cops, or setting fires, or throwing millions of dollars behind bailing out rioters do not seem happy about either Biden’s chest-thumping about being ‘the guy who beat the socialist’ or his refusal to eliminate fracking.
So an organization on the hard-left going by the Orwellian name ‘Working Families Party’ has introduced a very Soviet-sounding document (Manifesto?) entitled The People’s Charter . (What, was the name Mao’s Red Book already taken?)
Here’s the short version of their document:
The People’s Charter represents an aspirational but concrete agenda around which progressives can rally: for COVID relief, jobs and healthcare for all, police reform, and bold action on climate. The five sections are as follows:
- Care for the Wronged: Repair historic harms and end systemic racism.
- Emergency care: Help everyone get and stay well, and support workers, families, and small businesses as long as it takes.
- A Good Job for Everyone Who Needs One: Working people can’t wait years for jobs to come back, we need millions of jobs now.
- Care for Each Other: Address the deficiencies in how our government cares for us that the pandemic has revealed.
- Care for the Future: Act now to make us all more resilient to challenges we know we have to confront.
Why are we kicking this off now, with just 26 days until Election Day? Because beating Donald Trump is a doorway, not a destination. If we take back the White House we can go on offense and demand Democrats take bold action starting in January 2021. In order to be successful, we must start building a movement now.
The United States of America is the richest country in the history of the world. We can get ourselves out of the messes we’re in. Imagine if the grocery store clerks, the farmworkers, the nurses, the teachers, the bus drivers, and all of the working people in this country were in charge of it. Imagine how different things would be.
We remind our readers of Bernie Sanders’ public statement that the coalition the Left has built with NeverTrumpers and other credulous Americans they’ve been able to dupe with their dishonest narrative is only the beginning of the fight.
“We’re going to come together to defeat Trump,” Sanders told “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah on Friday. “And the day after Biden is elected, we’re going to have a serious debate about the future of this country, but it will be done within the framework of a democratic society.” –Hill
The day after Biden were to be elected (heaven forbid!) that’s when the real battle for control of the direction of the party would begin.
Why are Biden’s answers about what’s going to happen so vague? It’s simple, he probably doesn’t yet know himself. Democrats haven’t had that civil war for control yet. That comes later.
Just like it does in every revolution.
Once in power, the Lenin and Trotsky factions turn on each other. Why should this be any different?
AOC, for all the criticism we might level at her, has one thing to her credit. She is a true believer in her misguided cause. If anything, she’s a zealot.
She’s on record saying she doesn’t care if she’s a one-term elected official. She’d rather be a one-termer who got s**t done and was replaced by another zealot than a lifer like Biden who got practically nothing done.
Don’t forget, she may be an advisor to Biden now, but as recently as this January, she was on record speaking out against him.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview published Monday that Democrats nationwide can cultivate “too big of a tent,” asserting that she and her party’s 2020 frontrunner, former Vice President Joe Biden, would be in different political parties in any other nation.
Asked for a profile by New York Magazine about what role she might play as a member of Congress should Biden capture the White House, the freshman House Democrat from New York responded with a groan.
“Oh God,” she said. “In any other country, Joe Biden and I would not be in the same party, but in America, we are.” -Politico
