It is no coincidence that the President who literally wrote the book on ‘The Art Of The Deal’ has the logistics for COVID vaccine delivery worked out even before they have been approved.
Not much attention is given to Trump’s ‘Operation Warp Speed’ which has been instrumental in ramping up the government’s logistical responses to the Chinavirus.
While Governors have responsibility for oversight of the medical systems and regulations for their individual states (including stockpiling emergency gear) Trump has been praised even by Governors like Andrew Cuomo and Gavin Newsom for how responsive he has been in getting gear to them.
Remember the shortage we supposedly had in respirators? They are a complex piece of machinery, but Trump worked out a deal with auto manufacturers to help ramp up production. It was only later that we discovered that Governor Cuomo was sitting on a secret stash of them (stored in New Jersey!) for use ‘just in case’ things ever got ‘really’ bad.
He helped oversee a national ramp up on testing and PPE production, invited a repatriation of manufacturing, and instructed bodies with his oversight to not merely streamline or eliminate relevant red tape and obstructions but to actively cooperate with private companies and labs working on solutions.
Now we are seeing Trump’s business experience pairing beautifully with his Presidental role in yet another way that Joe Biden will refuse to acknowledge.
Not only is he pre-purchasing boatloads of vaccines in the possibility that they will gain approval in the (relatively) near future, but he’s now gone one better even than that.
Free vaccines for all seniors.
(Considering the seniors are the people for whom the Chinavirus is the biggest threat, this is a big deal.)
The Trump administration on Friday unveiled a deal with CVS and Walgreens to administer a future coronavirus vaccine to nursing home residents and staff free of cost.
Under the plan introduced by the Department of Health and Human Services, trained staff from the two national pharmacy chains would deliver the vaccines to nursing homes and administer the shots. The vaccine would also be available for free to residents in long-term care facilities, including nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, adult family homes and residential care homes.
“Protecting the vulnerable has been the No. 1 priority of the Trump administration’s response to COVID-19, and that commitment will continue through distributing a safe and effective vaccine earliest to those who need it most,” HHS Secretary Alex Azar said in a statement.
CVS and Walgreens will be reimbursed for administering the shots at standard Medicare rates, officials said. — FoxNews
Who would be in a better position, logistically, to deliver vaccines than the local pharmacies who already have a relationship with so many of these retirees?
It’s an elegant solution that doesn’t require some new network of government staffers to implement it at the end-user level. That’s the exact opposite of the standard government approach to such problems.
For all the handwringing and fingerpointing by Team Biden, Trump has been showing real leadership.
But as good as he is, there’s someone who shows even better leadership.
