Were you thinking of heading to Canada in the next few months? We’ve got some bad news for you…it’s going to cost you mucho dinero and your freedom.

The restrictions limit international travel to just 4 airports and quarantine at travelers’ expense.

Since the beginning of the pandemic all the way back in mid-March 2020, anyone crossing the border into Canada had to quarantine for 14 days or face a penalty of 6 months in prison and/or a fine of $750,000 for violation of the Quarantine Act.

Here is a screenshot from the Government of Canada website under the “Penalties” tab:

On January 7, 2021, the Canadian government imposed new travel measures requiring a negative molecular COVID test (this is the PCR nasal or throat swab test) for everyone 5 years of age and older before crossing the border into the country. The test must be taken a maximum of 72 hours before departure for their flight to Canada. (This was, by the way, in the wake of several politicians across the political spectrum heading to warmer climates over the Christmas holiday while harsh lockdowns in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec were imposed.)

Now, the government that insisted that shutting down air travel from China in the early days of the pandemic was a “knee-jerk reaction” and “xenophobic”, is suddenly forcing all travelers, including Canadian citizens to take another PCR test once they arrive in the four airports approved for international travel — Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal. While travelers await the results of this test, they must isolate in a “government approved” hotel for quarantine at their own expense. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expects the cost to be upwards of $2000 per person. If someone tests negative, they are then free to complete the remainder of the 14-day quarantine at home or another place approved by the government. There will be “increased surveillance measures” put in place to ensure people are complying with the quarantine. If they test positive, however, they will be moved to a federal quarantine facility at an undisclosed location and quarantined there as well as tested for variant strains of the coronavirus.

“With the challenges we currently face with COVID-19, both here at home and abroad, we all agree that now is just not the time to be flying,” said Trudeau outside his home at Rideau Cottage.

Starting at 11:59 p.m. ET on Feb. 3, all international passenger, private and charter flights, including from the U.S., will land at the Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and Montreal airports. Cargo-only flights will remain exempt.

The prime minister said the government will soon be introducing mandatory PCR testing at the airport for people returning to Canada “as soon as possible in the coming weeks.” That’s on top of the pre-boarding test already required.

Travellers will then have to wait up to three days at a government-approved hotel for their test results, at their own expense, which Trudeau said is expected to be more than $2,000.

Transport Canada said there will be “very limited exceptions.”

Those with a negative test will then be able to finish their 14-day quarantine at home, with increased surveillance. Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam added that returnees will also be swabbed on day 10.

She also said travellers who have been vaccinated abroad will still be subject to the quarantine rules, but added that’s under discussion.

In a statement on Friday at around noon, the Prime Minister admits that although fewer than 2% of cases of COVID are the result of international travel, restrictive measures are being imposed.

In addition to multiple PCR tests and mandatory quarantine, all Canadian airlines have suspended direct flights to the Caribbean and Mexico effective on January 31 to discourage sun-seekers from escaping the cold.

Does this sound a wee bit dystopian to you?

The Government of Canada is requiring all travelers into the country — including returning Canadians — to install an app on their phone with their quarantine plans that need government approval and then they need to check in once a day with said app.

This is all just so unbelievably awful and a blatant infringement on the rights of Canadians.

The elites seem to think that the only reason to travel is for vacation. I personally have elderly relatives in the Caribbean, some of whom live alone. What if I needed to travel to assist them if they became ill?

Christine Van Geyn, Litigation Director for the Canadian Constitution Foundation is encouraging Canadians to contact her in this outrageous infringement on individual rights.

Canada has not handled the pandemic well, and these constant infringements on the rights of Canadians should be the warning to the United States that the Biden administration may well follow suit. After all, Joe Biden took a page from Prime Minister Blackface in requiring a negative PCR test and a 14-day quarantine. You don’t think that Executive Order Joe won’t do the same damned thing in the United States?

You bet he would.
