Remember Obama’s old chestnut that ‘elections matter’? He’s not the only person to have noticed that fact.
The University of Oklahoma has noticed as well.
Ever since the practice of some hospitals and clinics pushing policies that have been nicknamed transing the kids by various critics of what’s euphemistically called gender-affirming care, concerned parents have taken a great deal of intrest in the issue.
Those concerned parents — not to mention people who have gone through the ‘gender-affirming care’ process with some horrifying side effects and tremendous regret — have spoken out about the practices of hospitals and clinics fast-tracking minors into a process that turns them into lifelong patients.
Some hospitals have been exposed for having taken an interest in this form of ‘care’ explicitly because it would be a tremendous cash cow, rather than any prior belief of this process improving the lives of their prospective patients. So much for the practice of ‘do no harm’.
Once discovered, entire catalogs of hospital and clinic videos were deleted, and websites were pulled down.
Too late. They found themselves in the public spotlight. Suddenly the same activists that had been so aggressively shaming and silencing any dissenting voices to this policy were put on defense.
Oklahoma’s Children’s Hospital is moving away from the practice of rushing children into gender transition. They are doing so not for any philosophical or ethical reasons. They are doing so because legislators responsive to Oklahoma’s citizens have kicked them in the wallet.
In direct response to new State legislation, the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital, which had been providing various gender-affirming services to adolescents no longer be doing so.
“The OU Health Senior Leadership team is proactively planning the ceasing of certain gender medicine services across our facilities and that plan is already under development,” OU Health said in the statement.
The Oklahoma House of Representatives added restrictions on Monday to special session legislation that would prevent Oklahoma Children’s Hospital from performing gender-affirming surgeries on minors at any of its locations. The Oklahoma House Conference Committee approved a new version of Oklahoma bill HB1007 on Monday that would restrict the hospital’s ability to perform some gender-affirming services, including hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgeries on minors, according to the bill.
The bill’s new version prevents OU Health from using any of the $39.4 million the hospital’s new mental and behavioral health facility is set to receive from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) “for the benefit of any facility owned by the University Hospitals Authority or University Hospitals Trust performing ‘gender reassignment medical treatment’ … on children under eighteen (18) years of age.” — TheDailyCaller
Why is this so important? Well, for one thing, they boast of being the only institution in the state that offers such ‘care’ to children younger than sixteen years old, and they were the founding member of a coalition of professionals pushing this form of patient consultation.
If someone is going to make a life-altering decision that could make you permanently sterile we should at least wait until they are old enough to sign the contract for a phone bill.
All it takes to reign in these radicals is a little courage and resolve.
