Imagine being at the top of your profession and seeing an amateur doing things you brain can barely comprehend. This video starts with a drummer doing exactly that, and build from there.
Why would a right-leaning political show dedicate a whole episode to talking about an amateur drummer?
First, because he’s freaking awesome, leaving professional drummers absolutely gobsmacked at what he can do and how easily he can do it.
Second, it’s because there’s a lesson in there for the rest of us that perfectly resonates with the merit-driven principles on which the political right depends.
There’s even a famously difficult drum intro that was so tricky that the studio recording relied on layering two tracks dubbed over each other. And he plays it cleanly.
Scratch that. He plays it cleanly, and makes it look easy.
Some musicians might look at the magic he can make behind the drums and be ready to throw up their hands.
But if you look a little closer, the way Scott Ott answers Bill’s second question opens a wide avenue of hope for the rest of us.
