* Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Program — $125 million annual savings.

* Presidential Campaign Fund — $775 million savings over ten years .

* No funding for federal office space acquisition — $864 million annual savings.

* E nd prohibitions on competitive sourcing of government services.

* Repeal the Davis-Bacon Act — More than $1 billion annually.

* IRS Direct Deposit: Require the IRS to deposit fees for some services it offers (such as processing payment plans for taxpayers) to the Treasury, instead of allowing it to remain as part of its budget — $1.8 billion savings over ten years.

* Require collection of unpaid taxes by federal employees — $1 billion total savings. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ABOUT?

* Prohibit taxpayer funded union activities by federal employees — $1.2 billion savings over ten years.

* Sell excess federal properties the government does not make use of — $15 billion total savings.

* Eliminate death gratuity for Members of Congress. WHAT???

* Eliminate Mohair Subsidies — $1 million annual savings.

* Eliminate taxpayer subsidies to the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change — $12.5 million annual savings.

* Eliminate Market Access Program — $200 million annual savings.

* USDA Sugar Program — $14 million annual savings.

* Subsidy to Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) — $93 million annual savings.

* Eliminate the National Organic Certification Cost-Share Program — $56.2 million annual savings.

* Eliminate fund for Obamacare administrative costs — $ 900 million savings.

* Ready to Learn TV Program — $27 million savings.

* HUD Ph.D. Program.

  Yep, gotta start somewhere! I keep saying, we’re ALL in this together, Republican, Democrat, Independent, blacks, whites, Latinos, Asians, etc. When the nation is completely bankrupt, which IS coming, if things don’t change SOON, we ALL will suffer, not just one group or the other. Some will be hit harder than others, because SOME are so used to government handouts, they don’t know how to ‘make do’.

Good question, what’s even more important is that this same Republican led Congress has bee passing deficit spending of over $1 trillion for the last 3 years…….that’s more than their “cuts” in 10. I’m not saying I’m not against removing these. They should be removed because they should not have been there. However, this will never balance a budget till they get to things like entitlements, social security, and the military expenses overseas. Beefing up national defense is one thing, supporting foreign wars and nation building is completely another.

is all on AF-1, he purchased a 1 million tour bus that he only uses from any

This is just a short list. There are many many more programs that are an absolute waste of our money and resources. Maybe they will even get a budget for the first year in office?

That list is a very timid start. $2.5 Trillion over ten years sounds impressive, but at the current rate, you would still see an increase in the debt of about $10 Trillion. How is going from $16 Trillion to $26 Trillion in debt progress? And that doesn’t include a host of other obligations. The real debt is more like $200 Trillion today. Some “rugged cuts!”

Now, start eliminating entire departments at the cabinet level. If you don’t cut at least $1.2 Billion PER YEAR you aren’t making any progress at all. When you find yourself at the bottom of a hole, the first thing you do is to stop digging! Just digging a little more slowly doesn’t fix the problem.

The Departments of Energy, Commerce Education, Interior and HUD should be the first to go. Bring our troops home from Iraq (they are still there, just now labeled as “non-combat”), Afghanistan, Jordan, and the rest of the Middle East and Northern Africa. Stop the 7 or 8 wars we are currently waging, close at least half of our 1,000 military bases across the world and beef up our defense capabilities at home. Let those troops spend money in our economy rather than in the economies of Germany, Japan, Korea and Kazakhstan.

Stop foreign aid, we can’t afford to borrow from China to give grants to dictators around the world in the vane hope that they will somehow like us. Disband the TSA and DHS. Wind down the Federal Reserve and allow competing currencies. Return most power and programs to the states. Reform the tax system and begin reducing the hundreds of thousands of laws and federal programs.

That would be a better start. The most aggressive Republican cuts are sissy nonsense. They don’t want to cut the budget or the size of government. These “bold” and “rugged” proposals are made using what sound like big numbers to distract us. Nobody (well only a couple) in Washington really want to fix this mess.

It might not really matter since this is likely a self correcting problem. The dollar is worth only 4 cents of its former purchasing value and is headed south fast. The Fed and the government are gambling with what’s left of it. Eventually the currency bubble will burst. Dollars and T-bills will be worthless and we will default on the national debt and all of the $200 Trillion in obligations, including pensions, military pensions, Congressional salaries, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and the rest. When that happens the entire federal empire will collapse and we will have to rebuild something that makes more sense from scratch.

A lot of people will suffer. Many will likely die. When we come out of the other side, hopefully we will have the wisdom to not repeat the mistakes that caused this mess.

2.5 Trillion over 10 years???? Doesn’t even make a dent in a 16Trillion deficit or touch the billion+ interest paid daily on the debt. Suggestion…close down the government, send the non-essential people home and then fire them and close the agencies they are non-essential to. Audit the Federales Reserve and make them pay back the trillions they have stolen from US. In 2008 when the economy collapsed, 3 Trillion+ was sucked out of individual retirement, college 5029, the stock market etc. and the Federales reported a 3 Trillion+ gain…h-m-m-m.

Keep in mind folks, the US Congress authorises all spending including that of what the president spends. Air Force One nor Marine One can fly unless congress authorises payment for the fuel. The list is a great start and we need to elect people for office who will keep it that way. We need to away with several departments as well like the Federal Dept. of Education, the EPA, the TSA, HHS, the IRS, FDA, and do away with the UN as it is useless as the League of Nations was after WWI. Just imagine what our annual individual tax obligation could be?

Need to add deleting the automatic retirement pay for Senators & Congressmen. They continue to draw full pay for life after serving only ONE Term in office. Not saying they should not have a retirement program, but it should be patterened after the military retirement pay system,,, ie,,, Serve 20 years and draw 50% and 30 years, draw 75% of their regular pay. Additionally, ALL of them should be required to use the SAME medical benefits as all other citizens have,,,ie,,, Medicare,,,(NO Special Health Care Program), and ALL of them should be required to obey EVERY Law that all of us are governed by.

  Nope no same benefit package as our military. They do not put their life on line nor have they faced what our military does.
  It was intened by the framers of the Constitution that you serve your term or 2 for the honor of serving and then go home to your regular line of work. We should return to that premise. Their pay and perks are quite enough.
  I do agree that they should go onthe same SS and Medicare as the citizens they are supposed to represent. The job of Congressman/woman or senator was never to be a life time entrenchment but a temporary service to our country.

    NHC,… I agree whole heartedly! Get back to the Constitution. Send the freeloaders backm to the farm after 2 terms in house, 1 term senate, of continuous service. They must not run for Congress again for 10 years. After 4 or 6 years they grow contemptuous of the people that sent them to serve and as we all know, “familiarty breeds contempt”. Just look around at the house and senate, and all of their staffs. Nothing but contempt from all of them. With the pay they have voted for themselves, they can provide for their own retirement.
    as far as healthcare they should get no different treatment than the average citizen they represent. We must get back to the constitution, and only the constitution. If it’s not in that document, leave it up to the states and the people to provide. Tax only funds necessary to provide for items laid out in the constitution. Funding for other projects fall on the states to provide as they and their citizens to provide. The constitution should not change other than by ammendment.Rarely and judiciously.

      We agree … Where was is wrtten that providing for the general welfare included freeloaders, deadbeats, and illegals? At the timeour Constitution was written it meant protection for citizens and their rights; not this glob of government goop it has devolved into.
      It did not include adhering to UN mandates or participation and funding of it, only a unified America as a soverign nation.
      It set forth rules for US citizens, Meaning that those elected to office were also part of that citizenry not a special elitist class.
      No where in any of the amendments has that been changed.
      A Consitutional Convention has not been held to change any of those amendments in decades. Yet, Jefferson one of our founders believed one should be held every 10 years.
      The government has run amuck and quagmired our country. We want it back and have every right to do so. And yet, for all we have fought for on our soil and that of other nations to protect their liberty Now more than ever since our first Revolution we need to to preserve and protect our own.
      
      Democracy is not something to be given by a government it is to be taken by the right of the people. It is our God given right.
      Am I advocating another Revolution? That is up to the American citizens to decide. Would I join it? As a patriot I have made my choice.
      I will always stand on the side of our Constitution and will protect it from all enemies both foreign and domestic.

  Dear Briggs: This is an error that is widely spread but wholly incorrect. They are under the federal employee retirement plan, which requires five years service to qualify for retirement. Their retirement rate is based on years of federal service and their highest annual salary, and they cannot draw any of it before they reach age 57.

Wait a minute! Before we go gaga over the cuts represented here (of which I am for every damn one of them, don’t get me wrong) as ACTUALLY being 2.5 trillion in federal reserve units, add it up. It only comes up to just under 320 billion in federal reserve units, or 13.1 percent of what is advertised. A mere fart in a hurricane-when looked at the total red-ink picture. Maybe something is not clearly stated here, but whenever someone throws out a number, don’t run with it until we check it out. We start to look like Biden when we do. You all have Excel or something like it, check me out!

  Relayman, that is part of what I was trying to communicate. The Republicans and Romney/Ryan don’t actually have a plan with real cuts. The only people who have proposed such things are Ron Paul and Gary Johnson. I understand some people won’t cast a vote for either, but for people to vote for R/R is seriously voting for more big government and more deficit spending (despite their rhetoric), IMO. I for one will not cast a vote for such nonsense be it Democrat or Republican.

My Idea was to bulldoze the House and Senate Office Buildings and put up two tents for two of the hottest months of summer. Tell them they stay there till everything needed to be done for the year is completed. (No Air Conditioning) Then they may return home to their real jobs. Pay them Military wage. Tell them it’s a duty and honor to serve. Election every 4 years and two terms maximum. I bet they could accomplish a years work in one month.

Glad to see that they have listed quite a few of the ‘perks’ that Senators & Congressmen get. If you’re making $100k a year, you don’t need taxpayer money to pay for you to play. And, usually, most of our elected representatives & senators have a profitable business that keeps running, & making money, while they’re in office.
