Eastern Sports And Outdoors Show Collapses Under Protests

Screen Shot 2013-01-24 at 2.12.45 PM Reed Exhibitions has decided to postpone, for now, the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show given the controversy surrounding its decision to limit the sale or display of modern sporting rifles (also called ARs) at the event. The show was scheduled to take place February 2-10 in Harrisburg, PA.

“Our original decision not to include certain products in the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show this year was made in order to preserve the event’s historical focus on the hunting and fishing traditions enjoyed by American families,” said Chet Burchett, Reed Exhibitions President for the Americas. “In the current climate, we felt that the presence of MSRs would distract from the theme of hunting and fishing, disrupting the broader experience of our guests. This was intended simply as a product decision, of the type event organizers need to make every day.

“It has become very clear to us after speaking with our customers that the event could not be held because the atmosphere of this year’s show would not be conducive to an event that is designed to provide family enjoyment. It is unfortunate that in the current emotionally charged atmosphere this celebratory event has become overshadowed by a decision that directly affected a small percentage of more than 1,000 exhibits showcasing products and services for those interested in hunting and fishing.

The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show and Reed Exhibitions made a grave error here. It amazes me that someone involved in sports, hunting and fishing could be so ignorant of the core reasons for the Second Amendment, to prohibit the displays of semi-automatic paramilitary carbines. Our solemn, natural, inalienable and God-given right to own and carry arms as protected by the Second Amendment was intended almost solely to keep the door to tyranny and despotism locked forever. To prohibit such firearms should have shut down the show and you know what, I will make sure that I NEVER again attend any show put on by Reed Exhibitions.

  Marc Richardson: I agree with everything you wrote here except the “God given” part; our right to keep and bear arms was included in the Constitution as a result of our founding fathers using their own, personal, naturally acquired intelligence and ability to reason correctly and was not “given” by anyone, any God (who doesn’t exist), or any other supernatural, mythical being.

I am an NRA LIFE member and a Vietnam Veteran and very much a hunter and believer in our second Amendment in fact our Entire Constitution and all that it stands for,;I cannot conceive in my mind why you would cave in to thew anti-gunners and give them ANY positive media coverage and reasons that everyone should do as you people did with your Eastern Gun show, as I live in Florida which is the East, be it the far SOUTHEAST and was born raised and lived in the Low Country of South Carolina, Charleston to be exact ! Very much a bastion of hunting and sportsmanship and outdoor exercise ! My ancestors are now turning over in their graves and they have been in S.C. since prior to 1700. So I consider myself a Partriot and am willing to do my part to protect our Rights, even to the point of giving my Life to protect these Rights !

  What about the part of the 1st Amendment where it says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free excercise thereof…”?
  One has to interpret that as applying to all religions and that is where our First Amendment shoots itself in the foot. Here’s the problem: Since Islam is devoted to eradicating all other political systems (understand that Islam is primarily a political system, and lastly a religion) and religions, granting Islam its “free excercise” only insures that eventually all other religions will be denied theirs.
  Obviously, and unfortunately, our founding fathers hadn’t acquired a thorough understanding of the whole truth about Islam when they wrote the Bill of Rights.

I shall boycott ANY event put on by Reed Exhibitions period…they are Brits and need to stay on their own side of the pond…they want our money from these exhibitions but also want to help take our rights from us…they lost in the “colonies” and will lose again.

Reed Exhibitions is nationwide. They have a website. On that website they list the next upcoming events. Those vendors need to withdraw also and send a msg. If the event is held there needs to be massive protests at those events to send a msg to Reed Investments. They can pick one of the countries to do business in that doesnt have a2nd Amendment Right and withdraw all their operations from the U.S!.
