Folk Singer Alert: James Taylor-”Sacrifice Gun Freedoms to Save Kids.”

WASHINGTON — Addressing the issue of gun control, singer-songwriter James Taylor told The Daily Caller that Americans “need to make some sacrifice[s] to our freedoms” in order to keep children safe.

Following his performance at President Obama’s second inauguration, TheDC asked Taylor if he agreed with Obama’s executive actions on gun control.

“I think the nation is very divided on gun control,” Taylor told TheDC, “but I think the majority of us feel strongly — even the majority of gun owners feel strongly — that we need to make some sacrifice[s] to our freedoms, if that’s the way to put it. We need to make some sacrifices to what we might want to have, in order to safeguard our children.”

“I think there’s a limit to how much — I think the founding fathers wanted us to be able to arm ourselves, but I don’t think that they would have agreed that we should have the capacity to do the damage that we do have. And we just can’t afford it.”

Taylor told TheDC that he supports the president and sees him as a strong leader.

“I love this president for so many reasons,” he said. “I think he’s a true public servant. An amazingly capable and compassionate and intelligent man and a very level-headed citizen.”

I will surrender
my firearms when the government can accomplish and guarantee the following:

1) There are no more thieving murdering thugs that I need to protect myself, my
family, my property and other innocents from because the local police and government can’t
accomplish that task.

2) That there are no jihadists that have crossed our porous borders and are
organized in terrorist sleeper cells waiting on orders to attack.

3) The corruption in our government has been cleaned up so that my
Constitutionally guaranteed right to self-determination is no longer threatened
by bureaucratic tyranny because someone in government thinks they know better
than me how to live my life and spend my hard earned resources.

4) I am no longer under the potential threat from a foreign tyrannical
government

5) Any of a bajillion other unforeseen dangerous threats should appear that
require me to defend myself and mine.

6) Jesus the Messiah returns to establish His millennial Kingdom where the lion
lies down with the lamb.

Until these conditions are met I will own and use firearms guaranteed by the
2nd Amendment, and as required, to defend and protect the Constitutional from
ALL enemies foreign and domestic.

I don’t give a rat’s pitoot what any politician, celebrity elitist, media
talking head or any other moron thinks about. Self-determination and self-defense
are God given rights that I refuse to give up without a fight.

In my experience, those who have never been around guns and experienced them first-hand only gather information from the media and they are totally freaked out scared of guns. James Taylor is a ‘carrier’ of this leftist propaganda totally ignorant of the simple facts that 1.) criminals don’t obey laws – by definition – and 2.) that guns insure safety – ask a cop the last time he was mugged.

Look, I love JT’s songs and I sing them a lot. Beyond that, just another naive liberal that believes strict gun control is actually going to solve the problem. It won’t. There are 300 million firearms in the US, 200 million of them privately-owned. I suppose they’ll be calling for confiscation of all privately-owned firearms soon like they did in Australia. Do not let that happen. Write your elected officials, whether or not you own a firearm, and tell them you oppose gun control. I can support closing some loopholes (e.g. gun shows) and tightening up the background checks, but don’t kid yourself for a minute that this or other measures are going to stop the killings. There are underlying forces at work (e.g. poor parenting, bullying, mental illness) that people don’t want to address.
