Pew: 53% Feel Rights Threatened By US Government

For the first time, a majority of Americans feel that the government threatens their individual rights and freedoms, according to a survey released on Thursday.

Fifty-three percent of the 1,502 adults surveyed Jan. 9-13 by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press responded that they believe that the federal government threatens their personal rights and freedoms.

The Pew survey found that 43 percent disagreed.

The findings come as President Barack Obama begins his second term and differ from survey results from March 2010, when adults were divided on the issue. Forty-seven percent agreed that the government represented a threat to personal freedoms, while 50 percent disagreed, Pew found.

Men, the survey found, are more likely than women to believe their rights are under assault, while Republicans — 70 percent — are far more likely than Democrats — 38 percent — to say so.

I am not surprised that only 53 % even though it should be a lot higher but there are so many dumb people in the world they have to wait until they lose everything before they wake up and cry foul. Of course Hitler did the same thing. He wanted everyone to be equal but the only people that got ahead were the rich. Yes, that 53% should be much higher, it should be 99%, but that is what happens when you have more than 50% of the people relying on some type of assistance from the federal or state governments, just keep sending us our checks. Anyone I ask say they can’t stand the Federal Government and want them out of their lives, seen but not heard from. Our daily news should not include the Federal Government and now it’s seems to be the only news we hear about and none of it good.

I graduated high school in the early 60′s and they actually had the audacity to teach the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and all of the other major documents that our nation was built upon.     I have researched and personally seen the results of gun/firearm registration around the world. The statistics are dry and somewhat boring. The sad truth is that no such registration stands alone. Rather it has followed that those weapons registered get confiscated by the government that instigated the process. It may not immediately follow registration, but it will follow like the sunrise follows the night.
    In 1918, once the Communist Party had solidified its position, the Russian Government required the registration of firearms. Confiscation followed shortly thereafter, leaving the average Russian no ability to oppose the coming nightmare that was Iosef Stalin. Adolf Hitler required registration of all non-government firearms once he had siezed power in Germany. Again, the average German who opposed the Nazi regime had no real ability to fend-off the horrific holocaust that followed. When Chairman Mao and the Communist party ousted the Nationalist Chiang Kai-shek in 1949, they also required registration and near-immediate confiscation. Mao killed vast numbers of Chinese over the course of his reign, perhaps even more than did the Japanese during WWII.
    It is not only the totalitarian dictators who register and confiscate. Britain began the process in the 1920′s. Over the next 70+ years, they gradually outlawed virtually every weapon in private hands. Australia did virtually the same thing. In both countries, the violent crime rate sky-rocketed, while the homicide by gun rate fell. The latest year of crime statistics published by Her Majesty’s Home Office indicates a viloent crime rate that dwarfs the violent crime rate in the USA.
    We Americans have also “enjoyed” gun-registration beforeand policies that gradually eroded the ability to legally possess certain firearms. FDR urged the New Deal Congress to enact the National Firearms Act of 1934. Until the passage of this law, American citizens could own any/all of the weapons used to equip an infantry squad in the military. The arms addressed by the Second Amendment were the same ones used to equip the armed forces around the world at the time. FDR urged this law for “the common good” because gangsters/criminals such as Capone, Dillinger, Nelson, Barrow& Parker, and many others had used the M1921 Thompson submachine gun and the M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle to commit crimes. This law has amendments to make the sale/ownership of ANY automatic weapon produced after 1986 a Federal Felony.

Question on a generaly liberal Sodahead posting board about supporting the presidents gun position showed 67% opposed. If the internationals on that (67% in favor) had been factored into the equation, that number would haqve been 70%. Wonder who the pew folks called to ask for this information? If this survey is accurate, then it’s telling us that a majority of the electorate is concerned about losing their rights — and yet they voted for Obama and more Big Government. Apparently sacrificing one’s liberty is ok if it means getting more “free” stuff.

  One solution may help, depending on if you’re in a red or blue state. Find and make an email contact group of your states reps and senators. (You can still list the republican/conservative members of your state legislature even if you live in a ‘blue’ state.) Research and document the benefits of voter ID, and email to all politicians you can find. Most US reps and senators no longer use email contacts, but state officials possibly do. At least they do in Texas!
  
  Just think of every time you have to show a picture ID for any reason. Why is voting not on that list? When I voted last November here in Texas, all they asked for is my voter registration postcard. That’s because holder and the corrupt DOJ threatened Texas over voter ID, and Texas was intimidated and backed off.

Two little words. With these two words, two concepts were verbalized that have lived

In 480 B.C. the forces of the Persian Empire under King Xerxes, numbering, according to Herodotus, two million men, bridged the Hellespont and marched in their myriads to invade and enslave Greece.

King Leonidas of Sparta and another Greek city-state agreed to
help stop the invading Persians, and marched with 300 hand-picked troops to Thermopylae on the north coast of Greece.
