Is Focus On The Family Changing Its Message?
Dr. Dobson’s successor, Jim Daly, is making news because of his more accepting tone towards the pro-abortion and gay community. Daly argues that FOTF has previously “created an animosity” towards liberals and how sometimes they have crossed the line into hating the sin and the sinner. His tone has caused some in the left, like the Southern Poverty Law Center, to think that Focus is beginning to evolve with the times and go with the popular opinion of accepting gay marriage.
Still, the ministry lists on its site the support for “gay conversion” therapy, defunding Planned Parenthood, and opposition the International Violence Against Women Act. When comparing Daly with his predecessor and others like Falwell and Robertson, the New York Times: “Rather than being the prophet decrying wickedness, he is the evangelist, attesting to the divine love and grace that he firmly believes saved his life.”
What do you think? Is this a good change for Focus On The Family?
