Mantra of the Government and Media: ‘It Almost Worked’

Who defines poverty, and how much is too much? Jesus said that we would always have the poor. Tragedy and sloth will always plague us. The census bureau defines “poverty” for a family of four with two children as income below $22,811 per year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture defines “Food security” as, “The ready availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods.” Wow! I might be food insecure. We see constant government paid advertisements telling us that we need to fight hunger. But, they also tell us that we’re all obese. Which is it? Why does a government bureaucracy run by liberal Democrats get to define the terms of the problem?

For example, can we win the “war on terror” or the “war on drugs”? What are we fighting? Inanimate objects. Terror is a tactic. Drugs are a substance. Don’t we really want to fight terrorists? Ah, but then we must define who the enemy is and that is politically risky. The terrorists are Muslim fundamentalists. If we declared a war on Muslim fundamentalists, then we would know who to eliminate. Every Imam who declared, “death to the infidel” could be a target. Every young Muslim jihadi with a Youtube playlist like Tsarnaev’s could be rounded up. We wouldn’t have to wait for him to use the tactic first.

Why do we set up these straw men? Is it so that government will always be needed to finish the job? Is failure a plan? One could ask, why do we even look to the government to do all of these things that it can’t? Perhaps it is because many people in our secular society have no other savior.
