No Messing Around: Winning the Debate to Save Our Republic

I watched Ted Cruz this week on Leno. He did a decent job of fending off criticism for “shutting down the government.” I was screaming at the TV because Cruz didn’t give the smart answer: “I DID NOT SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT!!”

Let me offer a little civics lesson for Jay and all of his ignorant audience. No Senator or Congressman has the legal authority to shut down the government. BARACK OBAMA SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT!! Really, only 15% of it was shuttered. Our constitution wisely provides that all spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives, so that those elected officials closest to the people would have the most power to determine how the people’s money should be spent. The constitution does not give Barack Obama the sole authority to decide how our money is spent.

NEWS ALERT: The House of Representatives passed a spending bill! Because it did not include spending on this fiasco called Obamacare, OBAMA DECIDED TO SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT! Don’t give me this baloney that it’s the law and the Congress has to fund it. I’ll remind you that when the Democrats took over the House in 2008, they defunded the border fence which was also the law. But, as usual, nobody in the media blinked. Why do conservatives and Republicans always concede the premise to the liberals? It makes me scream, because they don’t know how to debate.

Cruz went on to remind Leno of a famous statement by Lady Thatcher that success in implementing policy requires winning the debate before one can win the vote. So, why have conservatives been losing the debate since 1994? I believe that the two main reasons for this are cultural erosion and an explosion of ignorance. As a society, in general, we no longer hold to the values that made this a great nation: faith, charity, love, individual responsibility, hard work, honesty, commitment, liberty and other Judeo-Christian values. The life ethic has been eroded by the wholesale slaughter of the unborn and then we are surprised by unrepentant violence. Prudence and modesty have been eclipsed by free sex. The two parent family is disappearing (42% of children have no father in the home). Liberty has been replaced by dependence.

How did this happen? We let the 60’s radicals take control of the educational establishment, the media (including both journalism and entertainment), the main line Protestant and Roman Catholic seminaries, the professional bureaucracies and the courts (as a result of controlling the law schools). The dope smoking, Marxist, SDS, Chicago Seven, Weathermen-like Alinsky, Bernadine Dohrn, Bill Ayers, Tom Hayden, Jane Fonda, et. al. control all of these institutions. While average Americans went to work, raised their children and went to church, these radicals fundamentally transformed America. We lose the debate because we lost the culture war. Culture drives policy, not the reverse.

While average Americans were off to work, both parents now to afford the same standard of living, they dutifully sent their children to the “free” government schools. Did the children learn to read, write and do arithmetic? Not much. But they did learn how to put a condom on a banana. And if they needed an abortion, the teacher would take them for it without telling the parents.

They learned that we are nothing special, being animals that evolved from the primordial slime. They learned that government is the provider and that only government can solve big problems like poverty. They were raised to be good socialists. And all the while, the bureaucrats, administrators and union bosses got rich. So the kids grew up without much truth and very little ability to think for themselves. They are addicted to a steady stream of sewage pouring out of the television. Thus, we have the creation of the low information voter who knows more about the Kardashians than the issues on the ballot.

So, how do we recapture the culture and win the debate? It’s going to take a miracle from God. God works through His church. I don’t mean the institutional, man-made, church with names like Methodist or Roman Catholic. I’m talking about the true, invisible, body of Christ made up of born again believers. If we are to recapture the culture, it must be done by believers.

First, we must fall in love with our Savior and be ignited by a holy passion. We must pray like we’ve never prayed before. We must stop preaching cheap, feel good, grace. I believe that the American church reflects too much of the septic culture. We must preach grace, but it must be the precious grace that only comes by the blood bought sacrifice of Christ.

I loved hearing Billy Graham preach the gospel again this week. He never fails to preach law and grace. He confronts the sinner with their sin before offering the solution. Grace falls on deaf ears to those who have not heard the law of God and are convicted. The church needs preachers like Jonathan Edwards and Billy Graham. We can offer redemption, forgiveness and restoration to the homosexual or the woman who aborted her child, but they must be told that they have offended God. We must stop winking at sin and saying it’s ok.

To win the debate, we must stop the infection at its source. We cannot allow the government to continue indoctrinating our children with their leftist, anti-God agenda. Public education must be dismantled. Right now, there is a tidal wave of resistance to the new Common Core curriculum. Parents are rightly concerned because this is federal government dictating what their children will learn with a heavy dose of NSA-style data collection thrown in.

Some parents are becoming involved for the first time and are shocked at what they are discovering about what goes on in their kids’ school. They are shocked that opposition is coming not only from government officials, but also from the teachers’ union and certain big businesses like Pearson and Gates who are set up to profit from the scheme.

I want to inform these folks that this is not new. Public education is a criminal cabal of big government, big labor and big business which have been working together with similar objectives since the U.S. Department of Education was founded by Jimmy Carter in the 70s. They don’t care about students or teachers. They only care about power and money. Common Core is only a symptom of the root problem. Opposing Common Core is a worthy cause, but it’s an incremental approach. Based on time constraints, I believe we need a radical approach that attacks the root of the problem.

Going through a legal process to undo the public education cabal would be a monumental task which would probably be impossible. But, again, the church could be the solution. What would happen if all Christians took their children out of public school? We don’t have to change the law in order to collapse the system. The system depends on a money flow based on attendance. We could start a boycott that would go viral. It’s not illegal to home school in most states and if enough people did it, it would be impossible for the government to stop it. Christians should prayerfully consider what they are doing by sending their children into the government schools. It sort of reminds me of offering your child into the fiery mouth of Moloch.

Good people are working to preserve this nation. I appreciate the efforts of Mark Levin to promote liberty amendments through a constitutional convention. But, for anything such as that to succeed, we need to win the debate. To win the debate we need to change the soil that we’re throwing seed into and we need to stop planting weeds in the garden.

Christians must lead the way in recapturing the culture. Indoctrination through public education is the vehicle for maintaining a permanent dependent class. It must be dismantled if our republic is to survive.
