‘Femme Fatale’ Fuels Battle of Sexes – but Those in Christ Can Forget All About It

Liberals often point out the concept of femme fatale is a “patriarchal myth”. In an article in The Conversation, an Australian academic column, Stevie Simkin purports that the femme fantale is an outdated myth which supposedly imposes a higher moral obligation on women than men, and hence, has held women to account for their moral failings,  but failed to do so for men, based on “archaic” prejudices. Even if it failed to hold men accountable for any moral failings they may have committed, this does not mean that the femme fantale has no kernel of truth. In fact, it is precisely because of many examples of a woman’s role in the moral failing of a man that the notion of femme fatale was conceived.

Given the tone of his article, Simkin surprisingly refers to The Fall as documented in Genesis. He points out that the whole notion of femme fatale originates from Eve tempting Adam to eat the Forbidden Fruit, and attributes this to what he perceives as unfair social judgments of women who commit hideous crimes.  However, what he does not seem to understand is the notion of true equality – that is, that people are to be punished for their crimes accordingly to a set of objective, universal standards, namely God’s Law which liberals typically despise. Liberals, who hate God so much, have tried so hard throughout history to subtract God from the notion of equality, because they think that equality can be achieved by any standard, except God’s.

It may be true that some people have tried to attribute suffering, crime and all other social ills to women in the past, and perhaps, more so today with increasing indifference towards pornography, abortion and debauchery. It’s amazing how people talk about how “far” women have come, but yet believe that the vices of pornography, abortion and debauchery, “empower” women. Thus, it seems that the modern understanding of “empowerment” is not only a flawed one, but an incredibly foolish one.

“Empowerment”, as understood in the modern world, is the ability to use other people for one’s selfish purposes. More importantly, it has hurt families, children, men and women, and separated people from God.

It is because of these universal, objective standards from God that a person cannot tweak for himself who he wants punished, and who he doesn’t want punished for the same crime; what he wants legalised, and what he wants criminalised; and, what he wants to be made available, and what he wants prohibited – all to suit his own self-interests. To the liberal who thinks that he can rely on his own strength of seek justice and fairness, these standards made by God hinder human “progress”, by breaking God’s boundaries, but not his own boundaries that he had inflicted upon himself. The liberal loves to blame God for his own sin by calling his sin an act of breaking long-gone boundaries that no longer exist in the modern age.

By God’s righteous standards, Eve was the one who tempted Adam, and so she was responsible for tempting Adam, and her failure to obey God when tempted by Satan. Likewise, Adam was responsible for his failure to obey God by allowing himself to be act on Eve’s tempting. Since Eve tempted Adam, she was to be held responsible for her act of tempting Adam, but not Adam’s act of disobedience. For God to be just in His Perfect Love, He had to punish Adam and Eve for their personal sin individually. God was extremely disappointed by Adam and Eve because they, and the rest of humanity, had to be separated from Him. God loves all people so much that despite how much it hated Him, He sent His one and only Son, Jesus to redeem us by dying for us in the ultimate Sacrifice. (John 3:16)

When Jesus came and died, there was to be no distinctions. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galations 3:28) This is why those in Christ can forget about all the conflicts that have divided people from the Battle of the Sexes, the war between Catholic and Protestants, the Jew and Arabs, the Communists and the Capitalists, conservatives and the liberals, the Labor and the Liberals, the Republicans and the Democrat, the West and the Islamists. It is not because these wars may not directly affect those in Christ, but because such wars are from the flesh, not God. Such wars alienate people from God.

In the words of G.K. Chesterton:

The modern man says, “Let us leave all these arbitrary standards and embrace unadulterated liberty.” This is, logically rendered, “Let us not decide what is good, but let it be considered good not to decide it.”

He says, “Away with your old moral standard; I am for progress.” This, logically stated, means, “Let us not settle what is good; but let us settle whether we are getting more of it.”

Christ is the only Way to the Father (John 14:6), and so accepting Christ as the Saviour of one’s sins is the only way to be saved. This is not dogma, but the ultimate Truth.  Will you repent and accept Christ as Saviour today?
