BUSTED! Leftists Who Live Like Conservatives (Most of Them!)

The facts of life are conservative –Margaret Thatcher

Dear Leftists,

Did you know you are partially conservative and completely capitalist?

Don’t be angry. The science, as you say, is settled. For clarity, let’s turn to Mark Levin, who defines conservatives as follows (from Liberty and Tyranny):

The Founders believed…that we, as human beings, have a right to live, live freely, and pursue that which motivates us….Like the Founders, the Conservative also recognizes in society a harmony of interests, as Adam Smith put it, and rules of cooperation that have developed through generations of human experience and collective reasoning that promote the betterment of the individual and society. This is characterized as ordered liberty, the social contract, or the civil society.

Leftists, you are conservative in that you act in your own self interest. You freely choose where to live, what car to drive, whether to drive at all, what schools to send your children, what clothes to wear, what perfume to wear, where to go on vacations, what colleges to attend, what restaurant to patronize, what entrée to eat, what size iPhone to buy, and so on. You go freely about your lives, and wish to be unmolested doing so. That’s conservative, friends.

The additional tenet of conservatism, belief in God, may escape you (a topic I may address another time) but you are conservative when it comes to your own, secular, lives. It’s too bad your free, individual business is dedicated to meddling in ours.

Now on to capitalism, which you Leftists embrace so vehemently you look like you’re going to choke it out. Understand it this way: Anyone who does not work in return for remuneration of some kind is a full-blown capitalist.

Take a look at the approximate net worth of your fellow Leftists: Oliver Stone ($50MM), Michael Moore ($50MM), Nancy Pelosi ($26MM), Harry Reid (between $3MM and $10MM), Al Gore ($200MM), Bill and Hillary Clinton (poor, but between $100MM and $200MM)

For the moment we’ll stipulate the above were not involved in or had knowledge of any illegal activity to gain their wealth.

No one gains wealth without a return. So whatever it is the Left does to achieve their riches, God bless them. If an academic institution, University of Buffalo for example, is dumb enough to pay Hillary Clinton $275,000 for a single speech, clearly someone believes she has something worthy to say. On that note, the average American could charge this institution 1/10th the price and give graduates a speech ten times the value.

Environmentalists, when you get up in the morning, do you brush your teeth with dirt? Do you let your neighbors use the communal water to take a 15 second shower while you wipe yourselves down with mint leaves from the communal compost garden? Do you eat your breakfast out of government issued Soylent Green recyclable snack packs? No. You reap the benefits of a capitalist system with your Sonicare tooth brushes, vaulted showers, and Vitamix kale smoothies because, in theory, you earned these things with your own money.

And why shouldn’t you? Someone like Al Gore has his constitutional right to go after his self interest. Even though most believe Gore achieved his wealth on false premises, no one was forced to hand over their money to him. Gore gave his patrons something they wanted — whatever that was.

The problem is, of course, the hypocrisy. You live as conservatives and capitalists but you don’t want us to reap the same benefits of our physical and intellectual labor.

The bottom line is your bottom line. You people do things for a return on your investment. So do we. You believe you have the right to go about your business living your lives, raising your children, taking vacations, buying big screens, driving fancy cars…all of these things, and so do we.

The larger problem is your end game, which I don’t even think most of you could articulate if given a day. But the more you tax and regulate, the more you push draconian rules and fascistic practices upon the rest of us, eventually we’ll just stop working. And then maybe you will brush your teeth with dirt.
Grow up, and let us live.
