The Cavalier’s victory parade didn’t end well but in chaos instead. Do you think that the RNC is going to get out of hand in the same way?
The Cleveland Cavaliers championship parade ended in chaos after a teenage girl was shot twice in the leg following the victory celebration in the city.
The girl, aged 13, was shot at the corner of Euclid Avenue and Ontario Street around 5pm allegedly by a 15-year-old boy who is in police custody, WKYC reported.
The boy allegedly had a gun tucked into his waistband at the time of his arrest, though it has not been determined if he was the shooter.
Witnesses who fled the area after hearing shots ring out said the boy ran to the area of East Fourth Street and Euclid Avenue before he dashed into the Arcade, WKYC reported.
Authorities arrested him there and said the victims injuries are non-fatal. Police are still searching for a second suspect.
The shooting happened Wednesday afternoon near Public Square after an estimated two million fans had turned out for a parade and rally. There were no other reports of injuries and the event was peaceful up until the shooting.
Earlier in the day, LeBron James and the victorious Cleveland Cavaliers took to the streets of the city, to celebrate their first major sports championship since 1964.
Jubilant fans packed downtown on Wednesday as the city gave a hero’s welcome to NBA superstar James and his Cavaliers team-mates.
Hundreds of thousands of revellers cheered their team after it pulled off the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history to dethrone the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.
‘The strength and determination displayed throughout the season, post-season, and championship game are truly the embodiment of our city and its people,’ Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said in a statement.
The championship victory ends a decades-long sports drought for the Ohio city, where downtown streets were packed with cheering crowds hours before the parade was scheduled to begin.
