I have been, I believe, very fair in my coverage of President Trump. I have enthusiastically cheered when he made appointments recommended by groups I respect. I have been encouraged by many of those appointments and I defended his decision to keep FBI Director Comey as perhaps more than meets the eye. I have also defended him regarding the deep State and the fake Russian news. However, to keep your friends close and your enemies closer is probably a recipe for disaster if he persists in doing it. I now have several very deep concerns regarding appointments and Obama hold-overs that he is personally selecting.
David Shulkin was President Trump’s selection to head the Veterans Health Administration. As Allen West writes: “One of those positions was the secretary of the Veterans Administration, Dr. David Shulkin. Shulkin is the first person to ever hold this position who has never served in the military. Also, Dr. Shulkin was the head of the Veterans Health Administration under Barack Obama. That means he was the person responsible for VA Hospitals during the shameful scandals that plagued the Obama administration for which no one was held accountable…and this is whom President Trump selects to run the entire VA? And it’s very telling that Dr. David Shulkin’s confirmation vote was 100-0. Yes, not a single peep from ol’ Chuckie Schumer – that’s very telling don’t you think? The hypocrisy is clearly evident. Candidate Trump rails against the Obama administration and its treatment of our veterans, yet appoints the person responsible for those heinous actions to be his VA Secretary.” Remember it was Trump who has told us how important the treatment of our veterans is to him.
As a veteran and an advocate on my show for veterans, I am both perplexed and scared for those veterans now left in the hands of this man.
The second Appointment is the Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Kevin McAleenan who is an Obama hold over as well. In fact, my friend Brandon Michael Darby reported “All of the Border Patrol agents who spoke with Breitbart Texas Managing Director Brandon Darby from all nine Southwest border sectors expressed feeling betrayed or otherwise hurt by Trump choosing a man who did so much damage to them to be their new boss. Many expressed regret for having supported Trump in the first place and for having believed he would actually listen to them and care about what they experienced while risking their lives for other Americans.” AND “He nominated this guy… the problem is that this guy was hired by Barack Obama and was made deputy of [CBP] and all of the things we fought against on the border happened under this guy’s watch and he would have been the one responsible for implementing them. That’s DACA, DAPA and Catch and Release.” Darby said referring to some of the controversial programs started under the Obama administration.” Border security was the most important issue that President Trump ran on. He promised that he would secure the border. He has now appointed a man who was at the center of implementing policies that undermine our nation’s security. David Ward another friend of mine and spokesperson for the National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers shared on my Chosen Generation Radio show how then-Candidate Trump promised the CBP he had their back and even took their list of concerns which swayed them to endorse him over Senator Cruz. Brandon Darby shared on my show how he was involved in setting up that meeting after several failed attempts to set up a similar meeting with the Cruz people. To make this matter even more disconcerting there are many members of the grassroots and tea party movement who have staked their very reputations on their belief that border security was an untouchable in any kind of negotiation or compromise based on meetings Trump held with them at the onset of his campaign. One can only hope he has not sold them down the Rio Bravo Del Norte.
There is one other issue which President Trump engaged in over this past week that, coupled with the appointing of Obama hold-overs to key positions in areas where promises were made, make me very uncomfortable and should you as well. For the past eight years. We the People have been under siege. Since 2012 one group has consistently had our backs, the Freedom Caucus. This group has held the line and the POTUS tweets threatening them caused the Grassroots of America to send him a letter upon which I was honored my name was added. As I have said repeatedly one man and one election are not enough. “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” Let us hang onto it and never forget our God-given role.
Finally, I close by asking you to remember this: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
