‘Modern Presidential’ And ‘Modern Christianity’ … See A Connection?

Why is everyone so surprised that Trump’s juvenile Twitter posts between him and the media are being cheered on by so many Christians? Donald Trump was cheered on BEFORE the election by Christians, despite his childish demeanor when reacting to insults from the media and anyone else that insulted him publicly. He reacted in a childish manner in and out of the White House. His personality and demeanor hasn’t changed a bit and the way his supporters reacted to him hasn’t either. It seems to me that Christians agree with the way he interacts because most are not trying to stop or influence him to change. Christians and non-Christian supporters that don’t speak up still must idolize him. In their eyes, he can do no wrong.

Is this really so shocking? Trump himself answers the media when they accuse him of acting “unpresidential” on social media. He tweeted, “My use of social media is not presidential — it’s Modern presidential. Make America great again.” He clearly believes that this is how a modern president should conduct himself. I seriously doubt that he has any intention of changing on his own accord. Somehow, he is convinced that reacting like this to the childish, foolish media will help America be great again.

We are living in a time when Modern Christianity is juvenile in both application and knowledge and not many seem to mind or even notice. Juvenile Modern Christianity is so common that most don’t even know they aren’t being taught or aren’t applying basic Biblical doctrines. Modern Christianity lacks teaching and application of basic Biblical fundamentals. “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” (Matthew 22: 37-39) If our president and our nation simply knew and tried to apply those two things, we wouldn’t be acting so foolish. The president and Christians that know and try to apply the basics would be setting a better example for the nation.

Trump won’t change until the nation that elected him changes and demands it. We the People elected him despite all the red flags in his “style and character”. “Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him.” (Proverbs 26: 4) “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12) Any of these basics, when applied by the majority, will help.

Our leaders should already show great character and be grown up BEFORE they get elected. This was never hard to see, but it apparently isn’t being studied, taught or applied throughout Modern Christianity. “Moreover, you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness: and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.” (Exodus 18:21) Character should have mattered a bit more before the election to Christians and it simply didn’t matter enough.

Now we are simple seeing the results of who we elected. Don’t kids act like kids? We actually elected possibly a “baby Christian” and we somehow expected that possibility and the office of President of the United States to grow him up? Nowadays if you rattle off the “sinner’s prayer”, join a church, or just say you are a Christian… BAM… That means you are a Christian. Much of Modern Christianity teaches that once you say you are a Christian, you need to pray a lot and have a lot of faith and you will just change. This isn’t realistic at all. You get what you see. That’s reality.

I think it’s great to be hopeful, I sure am and Trump is a reactor. If his electorate demanded he change his demeanor and grow up, he actually might, but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen. Trump supporters loved the way he was then and now. Unless his voters demand a change, we will continue to see these foolish, childish reactions from both him and the supporters that idolize him.
