RELIGIOUS BIGOTRY: Dems Change Laws Protecting Confession… But Not Similar Situations

Why are progressive 'practicing' Catholics always picking fights with Catholics?

There seems to be a pattern on the progressive left — whenever they want to sucker punch Christianity, they find a nominal Christian to take the swing.

We saw the Cuomo family move the needle on a lot of issues, in the name of ‘Catholics’. Pelosi was bad. Biden far worse.

None of them even tried to reconcile the faith they professed with the politics to which they actually bow the knee.

Whatever the party says is right, is right. And religious practice will have to keep up with the changes. That includes everything from abortion, to transgender issues, to radical positions on human sexuality. Nothing is sacred unless the party deems it so. And once they deem it so? Then it’s sacrosanct.

Until it gets eclipsed by something more important, that is.

Washington’s Governor is just such a progressive ‘Catholic’, willing to go to new lengths in undermining the faith he claims to profess.

As reported by Matt Lamb, of Life Site News, he just signed a law that breaks the sanctity of the Seal of Confession.

Why is that a big deal?

It obligates the Catholic clergy to choose between obeying the law and obeying their religious scruples… singling out clergy in a way that other professions (like therapists) would not similarly be singled out.

It should be obvious even to non-Catholics like yours truly that this is a non-trivial moral dilemma in which to put a priest. Putting a priest into the middle of a story where this exact dilemma drives the moral conflict between two moral obligations whose scruples are in direct opposition has made for compelling story telling in the past precisely because this is a non-trivial issue.

SB 5375 is the latest attempt by Washington state Sen. Noel Frame to force Catholic priests to break the Seal of Confession and reveal what they hear in the confessional – or go to jail. The bill explicitly singles out priests, removing their “privileged communication” exception, while allowing it for professionals who may hear of abuse.

This law, singling out one privileged communication to the exclusion of similar ones, will be challenged in court, as it should.

And there’s a strong case to be made for religious discrimination at the basis of it.
