“Christians must love ‘gays’ enough to tell them the truth of sin, repentance, redemption & freedom. To affirm ‘gayness’ is to lie. #Truth” – (Tweet from Matt Barber on December 1, 2012)

@jmattbarber “I was just about to su** a di** when your tweet came, Matt. Now begging Jesus for forgiveness. On knees already. #convenient” – (Point of clarification; this is the real twitter account of Dan Savage.)
Matt Barber is one of the finest human beings I know – a Christian brother with a love for the truth and a compassion for the lost; a man, who so strongly believes in faith and truth, he lost his Fortune 100 job over it. Now, as a constitutional law attorney and Vice President of Liberty Counsel Action, Barber frequently writes to defend and critique cultural mores.
Back in June of 2012, Barber wrote an open letter to homosexuals to present the typical Christian view of – “love the sinner; hate the sin.” (An Open Letter to Homosexuals).
“Christians do not hate you,” wrote Barber; “We love you intensely. We love you because of who you are, not because of what you do or because of who you think you are. Still, to love someone and to lie to them is to hate them – especially when that lie inevitably leads to a tragic and hopeless end.”
Christians are obviously not getting the message (see my previous column: The Lambs Lie Down on Broadway) so Barber tweeted a summary of the article (see the pic) only to be “Savaged” by Dan, America’s new go-to sexpert.
Barber’s innocuous statement, a general avowal made to fellow believers in the hopes of encouraging them to live by the will of God was received with disdain and mockery by the homosexual activist. Savage mocks Barber, lifts a middle-finger to God, Christ, the Bible and Christians and then hides behind the rainbow curtain.
Just another vile comment that gets a wink and a nod by the politically correct Mainstream Tabernacle Choir, as their “see no evil, hear no evil, speak well of evil” campaign rolls on. Will Savage lose his job? Will there be a call to boycott his sponsors? Most likely he’ll be invited to judge the next Miss USA, and Obama will ask him to be the anti-bully Czar.
“Occasionally, some comment by an atheist or homosexual activist strikes me as particularly frightening,” observed Laurie Higgins, Cultural Analyst for Illinois Family Institute. “All I could think after reading Savage’s attached “tweet” in response to a “tweet” from Matt Barber was that one day Savage is going to have to stand before a holy God and answer for his words,” she said, “and to think that Savage was invited to the White House to talk about bullying, and to the Chicago Humanities Festival, and Elmhurst College, and last year’s national journalism conference for high school students.”
That’s right, the guy that frequently quips that “every dead gay kid is a victory for the Family Research Council” and that “Tony Perkins sits on a pile of dead gay kids every day when he goes to work,” is Pink Nation’s favorite new glitter bomb; a cudgel to bludgeon every spokesperson who dares stand up for virtue, decency or true Christianity.
Since the inception of this great country, we have been living in a world turned upside down; a world that made sense to those of a Judeo-Christian worldview. That world is being “righted” again by the wrong people. Pirates pass our legislation as perverts pull us into the gutter for diversity training. Bullies resolve our conflicts while a lap-dog media issues alibis and pays tribute. Barber is vilified; Savage is praised, “celebrified” and invited to the White House.
Yet, Matt Barber and others like him will have to be incarcerated or burnt at the stake to be truly silenced. There is no quit in men like Barber; not because of natural courage, but because of supernatural faith. In the decision to fear man or to fear God, Matt has chosen that good part and it won’t be taken away by pressure, threats, or even violence by a sexually twisted crowd of bigots.
When asked about the heat that comes with standing for truth and virtue in a world that celebrates the perverse, Barber writes,
Christ tells us in John 14:18 that ‘If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.’ If you are being a faithful advocate for Biblical truth, the world is going to hate you – with a vengeance. The bright light of Christ’s truth causes those who love darkness to have a visceral – indeed even a violent reaction. I’ve received death threats and more hate mail than you can imagine. I once had a homosexual activist tell me that he hoped my children die from AIDS. Luke 6:22 says, “Blessed are you when people hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man.” I consider every piece of hate I get from those who hate God’s truth a tremendous blessing. If people who are given over to depravity – who are being used of Satan aren’t attacking you, then you should turn up the heat. Lukewarm doesn’t fly.
Barber, who retired from professional boxing with an undefeated record, was the epitome of bravery in the ring; but the news that he’s making these days is of a different sort. It was Mark Twain who wrote, “It is curious that physical courage should be so common in the world and moral courage so rare.”
Matt Barber, you are a rare find, my friend.
