MAN STUFF: The Secret To A Happy Marriage, Courtesy Of Duck Dynasty
What Willie knows a lot about, besides running an incredibly successful business and starring on the best reality TV show on television, are the qualities -- like forgiveness -- that make a marriage last. He's been married to his wife and business partner, Korie, for 21 years. "I would recommend getting married young," he said. "That way you don't have all the baggage. All our memories are together. Everything we have, we built together."
"Korie and I met at a summer youth camp. I was in the fourth grade; she was in the third grade. We were on a hike and I asked her to hold hands. We went to different schools -- I was in public and she was in private -- but we'd see each other in the Christian youth group during the year."
Korie and Willie were married a year after high school, and went to college together. Coming from such an intense family culture, Willie considers their move away for college to have been crucial to the success of their marriage.
"Get away from your family for a while," he said. "Start your own thing."
The fact is, not everyone comes from such strong family backgrounds. It's easy to be ambivalent about getting into a serious relationship when you're young. But Willie doesn't think you should indulge in your own doubts. "People try to figure it out too much, to plan everything out. She and I were poor together. It's taken years to get where we are now."
