Post Boston Bombing, Barney ‘Frank’ly Speaks — and Does Us All a Favor
If I might suggest a loose, but accurate, translation of the Newton, MA windbag’s self-impressed ruminations: Don’t you get it? he snorts; If you aren’t cool with “government” pouring sacrosanct tax dollars into researching the sexual proclivities of New Zealand mud snails, springing lavishly for the Obama clan’s celebrity entertainment and super-vacations, endlessly enabling able-bodied but refuse-to-work layabouts and guaranteeing bottomless benefits for public-sector paper-pushers of any and every kind — well then clearly you disgracefully begrudge support for policeman, military forces and emergency personnel.
But I? Never! quoth Barney on CNN, moist-eyed, hand resting over his heart. No doubt smirking, too.
The thing Frank — and his elitist party — don’t apprehend is: the crucial issue is neither puffing broader and deeper government nor destroying it for destruction’s sake. A meddling, caretaker Washington is unacceptable — unworkable and unsustainable, to boot. Practical anarchy is not an option, either — and no serious person is recommending that.
What is imperative? Radically focusing the State only upon it’s duly authorized obligations, limiting it to its proper purview; to wit: governmental actions bounded by Constitutional restrictions.
Boston’s mid-April carnage — and ex-Congressman Frank’s uppity burblings — change that not a whit.
I’ve often asserted, wrong-headed is bad enough. Wrong-headed and arrogant is much worse. Toss in a dose of acerbic sanctimony and you’re dealing with a bluntly unbearable situation.
Barney Frank, bluntly unbearable for an awfully long time, manifestly remains so.
Thanks for reminding us, Mr. Retired Congressman.
