Duke U: The New Destination for Transgenders

Again, I do not debate that gender reassignment is necessary in some cases. I do question as to why it is being offered to students who, in most cases, are aged 18-22 when it has been medically proven that the portion of the brain that controls rational decision making is typically not fully formed until age 24.

I am, of course, not under the impression that the decision to undergo a sex-change operation is made lightly. But if the reassignment isn’t done at birth (because of a birth defect) or at a young age prior to puberty, most in bioethics would say that performing an irreversible surgery could be harmful if done too early.

And what happens to the revenue generated for the school from these fees if the services are not performed? Do they issue a refund, donate the proceeds to research or something else?

So again I wonder why gender reassignment is so important to these universities.

Maybe it has something to do with Section 5306 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

This section of ObamaCare offers Mental and Behavioral Health Education and Training grants to eligible institutions of higher education. What constitutes eligibility? To be eligible for a grant under this section, an institution shall demonstrate “participation in the institutions’ programs of individuals and groups from different racial, ethnic, cultural, geographic, religious, linguistic, and class backgrounds, and different genders and sexual orientations.”

No it couldn’t be that, could it?

There’s no way that an institution of higher learning would ever charge their students more money just to be eligible for grants under ObamaCare. No, that can’t be it.

I guess we will never know.
