Big Sis Napolitano: ‘Goodbye, Homeland Security; Hello, U of Cali!’

On Friday, Janet Napolitano announced that she will no longer be standing guard in the nation’s defense. Big Sis will leave her post in early September. Just in time to assume her new role in the private sector. There is a popular expression: “Payback is a” … um … female dog. That is not so in Janet Napolitano’s case. For her, payback is an extremely lucrative post as President of the University of California system. As soon-to-be-former Homeland Security Director, Napolitano racked up quite a record. Among other things, she proved that titles mean nothing. Under her tenure, “Director of Homeland Insecurity” would have been a more accurate appellation. A loyal and obedient tool of The Lyin’ King’s regime, she did her bit to strip America of every means of protection and safety that came within her grasp. With respect to border security, for example, she conveniently jettisoned her own, previously-held beliefs as Governor of Arizona. She did a complete 180, in fact, and fought Jan Brewer with every means the considerable might of the Federal government afforded her. But she wasn’t acting solely on her own behalf. The Wall Street Journal quotes The Lyin’ King: "Since day one, Janet has led my administration's effort to secure our borders, deploying a historic number of resources, while also taking steps to make our immigration system fairer and more consistent with our values." True, if one knows how to accurately translate Obamaspeak. By “effort to secure our borders” he means “no effort to secure our borders” and dismissing Federal enforcement laws already on the books, besides. Despite the regime’s sanctimonious lies to the contrary, the border is more porous than ever. Big Sis was only following orders. Napolitano’s ability to safeguard our border with Mexico has always been doubtful, as expressed by GOP House and Senate members, especially of late. Her departure and the nomination of a successor coincides with the escalating battle over immigration reform. The Wall Street Journal reports an additional complication: “Senate Democrats have provoked a fight over the rules governing confirmation votes and are on the verge of invoking what is called the ‘nuclear option,’ so dubbed because it could bring all Senate business to a standstill. Under the proposed change, Democrats would need just 51 votes to approve executive branch nominees, rather than the 60 votes effectively required today.” Possible contenders for the post have not yet been made public. Judging by the Democrat assault to make unfavorable nominations easier and the regime’s record of appointments so far, be afraid. Be very afraid. Big Sis was, apparently, a shoo-in for her new post. According to University of California Regent Sherry Lansing, head of a 10-member special search committee, “Ms. Napolitano was recommended on a unanimous vote after a search that involved a ‘large field’ of candidates.” A unanimous vote? From a large field of candidates? And Big Sis had the best qualifications? Is that unbelievable? Sadly, no. The Daily Caller cuts to the chase: “Napolitano is expected to more than triple her salary, from about $200,000 to the $601,000 gross pay earned by the University of California’s current president, Mark Yudof.” Well, this is California; Mr. Yudof merely holds a lifetime of credentials earned in academe. A former Governor and Director of Homeland Security has more star power. Perhaps, from a financial standpoint, even a specious title, means something after all.
