The past several weeks have been marked by events illustrating the folly of certain hallowed liberal principles. What is disconcerting to me is that in spite of overwhelming evidence that the liberal principles in question are responsible for tragic results, liberals attempt to capitalize on tragedy to advocate for more of what is causing the problems. There was the bankruptcy of Detroit after more than 40 years of liberal Democrat control. Some define insanity as continuing the same behavior and expecting different results. Yet, that is exactly what Democrat politicians are advocating as a solution for Detroit: more bailouts! Capitulating to ridiculous union demands, generous welfare spending, high taxation, excessive government interference and political corruption brought Detroit to destruction. More of the same won’t save it.
There were a couple of violent tragedies this week which liberals immediately responded to with calls for more gun control. First, there was the D.C. Navy Yard shooting, where a deranged Obama voter imbued with the culture of victimhood, snuck through because of inept security and killed twelve people. We were almost instantly assured that this had nothing to do with terrorism, but no one has yet to explain what this down and outer was doing in Thailand for over a month earlier this year. Who paid his way and what was he doing there? Does he have ties to Islam? Of course, in our politically correct tolerant culture, those questions cannot be asked.
In our politically correct military, guns are now banned even by members of the military. This is insane. It’s like taking the rifles from the cavalry at Fort Apache. Didn’t we learn anything from the Ft Hood tragedy? Apparently not, except that guns kill people. I suspect that if there had been armed military at Ft Hood and the Navy Yard, fewer innocent people would have died. But, liberals can feel better knowing that even our military bases are gun free zones like Sandy Hook. Did it ever occur to anyone that many of the mass shootings occur in gun free zones? Someone must have forgotten to tell the criminals, the insane and the terrorists.
Then we had a night of gang warfare in Chicago where thirteen people were gunned down. Immediately, Democrat “leaders” were on television calling for stricter gun control measures. Did anyone mention that Chicago has the strictest gun control laws in the country and yet it has the highest rate of gun violence? Did the criminal gang members in Chicago go through a background check to get their guns? I doubt it.
Yet, we hear accounts on a daily basis of law abiding people saving themselves and others from intended violence by criminals. In spite of all the evidence, liberals want to proceed with the same insanity. Is it stupidity? Or, is there an ulterior motive? Do you suppose that they want to disarm the people in order to control us as all dictators have done throughout history? Nah, that would be a stupid conspiracy theory.
Finally, we are witnessing a battle over ObamaCare. Do we need more evidence that it is destroying jobs and raising insurance costs? But, the Democrats want to proceed regardless. After all, it’s really about power and control, not our health. And the brave people fighting to end this insanity are labeled as terrorists and anarchists by liberals. That’s insane!
