According to police, both a teacher and the gunman were killed in a shooting outside Sparks Middle School, near Reno, Nevada.

The shooting occurred on the school’s basketball court. The teacher who was shot and killed is being hailed as a hero because he intervened. A  student told the Reno Gazette that he heard a pop and then this teacher  walked over to a student, tried to intervene and was apparently shot and killed. Other students say that they then fled the area and heard four  or five more gunshots.

Two other students were reportedly shot. One of them is in surgery, the other is said to be in stable condition. It was apparently a self-inflicted gunshot wound that killed the shooter, but police have not confirmed that.
