LGBT Workplace Rights: Send in the Clowns…
On Thursday, the Senate, in thrall to Harry Reid, approved legislation to “expand” insulation for gay, lesbian and transgender individuals in the workplace. The vote was carried, 64-32, with ten Republicans eagerly cannonballing into the trendy pool.
According to NBC News, The Lyin’ King issued high praise for the Senate’s action: “(the president) praised the Senate’s action, calling it a step towards “realizing the rights and freedoms that are our birthright as Americans.”NBC also quoted Democrat supporters, shortly before the vote: “(they) likened the bill to the Civil Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act…” Had there been any more self-congratulatory back-slapping going on, there would have been an epidemic of dislocated shoulders on Capitol Hill.
The Senate legislation is nothing but a brazenly obvious puppet show, Kabuki Theater at its worst. The legislation isn’t designed to protect the LGBT community; it was created for the sole purpose of keeping an already emasculated Republican Party on the ropes. NBC, quoting Chuck Schumer (D. NY), made the Democrat ulterior motive plain: “Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., told reporters that the GOP will be ‘sending their party straight to oblivion’ if they refuse to bring the legislation up for a vote in the House.” And that is precisely what Reid and the rest of the Senate thugs are counting on. The Democrats in the Senate know, full well, the House isn’t inclined to pass this farce; they want more “hate-the-Republicans” traction.
Newsweek appointed The Lyin’ King “the first gay president” on the strength of nothing more than lip service. The Senate is putting on a similar, empty show. Clearly, the Senate doesn’t have to work any harder than The Lyin’ King did to earn the Nobel Peace Prize. A hypocritical, pious flapping of their gums seems to be the Democrat success strategy.
Every media resource has employed the words “historic legislation” in describing the Senate’s less-than-historic sham. Why should such meaningless legislation be considered “historic?” The LGBT Workplace Rights legislation does nothing but further Balkanize an already fractured nation. It breaks down a law that is already on the books. It marginalizes society, giving parts of the law precedence, according to one’s ranking on the victim scale. All Americans’ workplace rights are already protected under the law. LGBT legislation provides unnecessary fine-tuning, like “hate crime.” Law is law. Existing laws don’t require being fractured. With due respect to the Imperial president, striving to make George Orwell’s frightening vision a reality, some animals are not more equal than others. Yet.
Unfortunately, Democrats don’t have to work very hard to cow establishment Republicans; even the Republicans in the Senate that didn’t vote for LGBT legislation never uttered one peep about it. If the LGBT legislation does pass the House, there would be another upside for the ruling class. Elected officials not only won’t control the size of government, they clearly have no desire to reign in an unrestrained legal system. The legislation becomes a built-in income producer for legal lobbyists. Ever in greater need of new sources of litigation, this would be made to order. All that is necessary is the accusation of discrimination; proof would be unnecessary.
