When You Wish Upon a Star…

…rotting homes one’s life may mar. A bit of a reach for poesy’s sake, perhaps but, true nonetheless. Brad Pitt, self-described celebrity “poster boy” for the Make It Right charity, has a bit of a publicity problem. At least 30 of the homes his charity constructed for Katrina victims in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward are literally rotting, inside and out.

Radar Online reports: “Brad Pitt’s Hurricane Katrina charity Make It Right…is under fire after more than two dozen homes that the organization built in the devastated Ninth Ward were discovered to be rotting from the inside out… ‘The wood turned gray and it was also black,’ Make It Right home-owner Nola Verrett tells RadarOnline.com … ‘Also some parts it was buckling and it had mushrooms growing out of it…’”

Make It Right is itching to shift responsibility for the snafu elsewhere: “Reps for Make It Right have laid the blame on the lumber, from wood company TimberSIL. A unique non-burning glass-and-wood blend, it had been guaranteed for 40 years, but now will be replaced at a cost of $150,000 to Make It Right. ‘It was unable to withstand moisture, which is obviously a big problem in New Orleans,’ Make It Right rep Taylor Royle told the New Orleans Advocate.” The ability to withstand moisture in Louisiana an “obvious consideration?” Apparently, not initially, when the wizards at Make It Right selected a contractor.

Pitt, who has stated that he has been in love with New Orleans since the 1990’s, cannot be blamed for wanting to help people ravaged by hurricane Katrina. He and the charity he represents can, however, be faulted for capitalizing on shoddy fixes and prolonging the pain of those people in order to rack up liberal street cred.

In 2012 Pitt appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. DeGeneres gushed praise for Pitt’s contribution to the construction of the faulty homes. Pitt tendered DeGeneres’ audience the following, self-deprecating comment: “This took a lot of very smart people coming in and attacking the situation…I get far too much credit for bringing some really smart people together.” One could argue, in the face of the decaying homes, the people Pitt “brought together” were neither very smart nor very competent.

Hollywood’s smart set has always sought out fashionable crusades, eager for self-righteous photo ops. Hurricane Katrina, although nationally outdone both in destructive force and shattered lives, still has a chokehold on Hollywood’s imagination. But, in true liberal fashion, whatever Hollywood doesn’t want to pay attention to doesn’t count. Katrina continues to rule Hollywood’s self-aggrandizing charitable interests.

Although Pitt, avid supporter of such causes as marijuana legalization, green energy and Democrat incompetents for high office (e.g. Kerry and The Lyin’ King…twice) is far from the worst of the glitterati, he suffers from the same delusion that afflicts all lip-service liberals; he believes that simply aligning himself with a cause is the same thing as knowing what he is doing.

Clearly, wishing simply doesn’t make it so.
